No same case as alwaysWeird thought: Did you switch cases on this bass recently? I have heard of outgassing of adhesives affecting finishes. Many people have said it looks like a heat-gun. I thought it looked like a chemical peel, like when you use that gel to remove paint. Could your bass be exposed to some volatile compound like naptha or acetone?

Check out Grip6 belts. They sit flat and you don’t have to worry about any kind of buckle rash. Been using one daily for over a year. I’ll never go back.
To OP, that sucks. I’d probably cry if that happened to mine. Definitely contact EB and see if they can do anything.
