Yep. When it was a 5 year old used bass worth $500.

Back in 1970 they retailed new for around $300. If it is older than that, probably less. I bought my used 1 year old 72 jazz bass for $125 in 73. Who knew that your $200-300 bass would be fetching $2k or up in about 40 years?

Meh. It's a hunk of wood. When that mod was done, it was probably the mid 70s and "just another bass".

Nobody would be freaked out if that were done to a 2002 P bass.

I would say a very accurate assessment. I bought a 1960 jazz bass in '70/'71 for $100 when it was just a used bass. Reshaping was definitely the thing to do. I know I did. Still own and play it.

The saddle positions look odd....the neck, guts ad hardware (if all original) are worth some money but they want over 2 grand.. don't know if you could part it out for that much if that was your intention...I would just play it as is or get a nice P bass body....

IIRC, Shelley sawed the guitar in half backstage before a gig with the Sex Pistols.

According to Shelley, it broke when he threw it on the ground during band practice one day.
