Buyers Beware/Scam: Rick Link/Beardly Customs

Wow. I saw the Reddit post and came here to see if there was an update here. Unbelievable.

I wonder if you can go through an escalation with PayPal
My experience is that PayPal is basically worthless when it comes to chargebacks. I sold something on EBay many years ago, and the buyer received the item and left positive feedback then initiated a chargeback some time later and just never responded to correspondence from EBay/Paypal about why AND proceeded to close their EBay account- my PayPal account was locked while an “investigation” proceeded, I was never actually asked for any input, then when they got no response from the buyer they just took the money out of my account and that was that. PayPal doesn’t challenge credit card companies and won’t eat chargeback fraud either, they are basically worthless.

I thought I'd share what an absolutely fabulous build from Rick Link / Beardly Customs. It's gorgeous! 😍
That a biased apologist poster in this thread touts their positive experience, is like a tiny raindrop falling in a sewage ocean. Totally meaningless in the context of this thread.
It only gets worse. A short while after receiving my refund, I receive a notification that the “buyer has filed a charge back with their financial institution”. Turns out that Rick sent part of my refund through PayPal, but then charged back the refund amount through his bank. PayPal has been unable to do anything.
Some ideas: Formally contest the refund chargeback with Paypal. 1st, the scam luthier Rick Link/Beardly is not the "buyer." He is obviously the seller.

2nd, Paypal is obligated to contest the chargeback by the "seller." In the banking/credit card world, there is no defense for withholding funds in which a return was accepted. If Paypal flatout refuses to help you, file for mediation through Paypal. Also, file a complaint against the seller's bank with the state attorney general/ and state and federal banking commissions.

You can also file BBB cases against both PayPal and Rick Link/Beardly Customs in their towns of home corporate office/business location. In the case of PayPal, BBB will offer mediation if they take your case. Paypal will not likely want to deal with the negative publicity surrounding such a complaint.

Rick Link /Beardly Customs will have to deal with a negative mark against his business if he doesn't answer the complaint, or participate with BBB process. He probably doesn't care.

Good luck, Brian! PS Maybe ask the mods to "sticky" this thread

Update: refund received. It took threatening with legal action to get it. I still stand by everything I posted here regarding the absolute terrible quality of instruments he makes. A huge thank you to everyone who has shared this and made this possible. Valuable lesson learned.

There must be communications that aren’t copied here. Why did he contest the PayPal transaction? Did he provide a reason?

Im glad to see you got your money back! I'm happy that I'm content playing easily obtainable production basses. Between situations like this along with what I've seen on TGP, I don't see myself having a custom built anytime soon.
