buying a bass tonight.

I feel in that price range an excellent alternative to the squier p-bass is the epiphone that looks like the gibson sg,it is the EBO this guitar is a bargain and it will be a good back up when you step up to a better guitar it is a great bass for banging around,I owned a real gibson EBO and the epiphone and they were close but that can be because 25 years separated the 2 but the gibson was that nice vintage brown where the epi was that cheesey red maybe they should offer more then red and black hhmm.. maybe I should get one and strip it and have a painter paint in my favorite color

ok friday after school im going to GC and going to buy a bass. They better have it on sale or im gonna be pissed lol. Btw, friday kicks off their labor day sale. If it is not cheaper than $279 in the store ima have to go order it online and then wait like a week cuz of labor day and hurricane gustav is headed str8 for here =(

ok ok heres the deal. i called up my local GC and guess what? they had no VM jazz bass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they only had 1 in b4 and it was used. fortuneatley they had a Squire 70s VM P-bass. ii might get this one and play it with a pick because i will mostly play rock. the p bass cost $250 and i already asked they guy to hold it for me. Would this be a good deal? He also said since their labor day sale starts tomorrow the price is more than likely to drop. should i go with this? if i do i am picking it up after school tomorrow.

this is a base question as they are both pretty much the same, except for the look. grunge instincts would tell me p bass. i think thats a better choice if you play with a pick, and it has that calssic look + i think krist novoselic used one:rolleyes:

I think Krist actually used both, but mainly the P-bass.
I have played both and was amazed by their quality. I would go for the P-Bass, but both are excellent. +1 on trying them out first.

I own the vm p bass I have had it for 6 months now. Its great the stock pickup is alright. It lacks alittle of the fat tone that p basses are known for but thats an easy fix. You dont even need to worry about how it sounds right now just get it and learn to play and then figure out what tone you want. Anyway back to the vm p bass. I also have an 03 mim jazz bass which I bought new 5 years ago. And the quality of the vm p bass is just as good as the mim j bass. Some things I like better like the fact that the neck doesnt have that sticky gloss finish. The vm p bass has became my main gigging bass. I hardly pick up the jazz anymore. Just go try out everything in your price range who knows you might finds something you like better. Check out the yahmaha rbx170. A friend of mine got one at gcs last sale for 130 its really nice for a 130$ bass. And since you had a budget of 280 get new strings right away since the strings that came on my vm p bass were really bad.
