buying a bass tonight.

ok, so tonight i am buying my first bass. I was just simply wondering what is better? Fender Squire VM jazz bass or the Fender squire VM P-bass? in a few months i am gonna play with some friends in a small band. probably more rock like nirvana and stuff like that. i am buying an amp in a few weeks when i get more money.

Congratulations on getting your first bass, if you get that is; I'm sure you will. Anyway, the the Squier FVM's are great basses for the price, Squier has made some remarkable strides in the quality of these fine instruments. The Jazz is going to be more versatile than the P, the P has a basic thumping tone that you can't go wrong with. The Jazz, think John Paul Jones, or roll off the neck pup and you get a Jaco-like tone. Either one you choose, your getting an outstanding first bass, how exciting. Keep us posted on which you decide.:)

What if you buy a jazz and then the next time your at a music store you pick up a p bass and relize that a p bass was what you really wanted? Play them both first before you buy one. And the perfect bass is a great site. And for being a talk bass member you can get a discount from them. whatever you buy buy new strings the strings that came stock on the vm p bass were terrable. I love my vm p bass though. Any questions about the vm p bass ill try my best to answer them.

I would go play one at GC before you outright order it online - to make sure you like the sound & feel. Don't forget to take into account the shipping charges too - what might seem cheaper online might end up costing you more after shipping/insurance etc.

Shipping is free at the Perfect Bass for most things (including every bass I've seen). But otherwise, big +1. Go to your local store, zraigy, and try them out to make sure you get the one you like most. Also, they may be flexible on the price--see if you can get it for the same price (or less!) as at Perfect Bass.

the vm squires are way better then the low priced ibanez basses. I played every low end ibanez at gc a while back when my friend wanted a bass. And none of them even sounded good. The vm squire series is great and will make a great beginner bass and even a good gigging bass. I love my vm p bass I even gig with it. Everyone cant belive that its a squire. Squire isnt the same company they used to be. I remember one show this kid saw me setting up and saw me pull the vm squire out of the gig bag and hes yells Why cant you afford a fender? He stopped talking crap once he heard it. Just upgrade the pickups and you have a great bass with the vm series.
