+1It might be better if you said which country you're in, as each country has its own customs department.
By and large you can expect to get taxed on a bass, though they do seem to drop the ball sometimes. You can ask the seller to under declare the value of the bass, but it means you won't be insured for the full value should it arrive damaged. Bear in mind that customs officials aren't stupid and have access to ebay like everyone else. You're risking having the bass impounded if you're caught trying to avoid duties - it's called smuggling.


I bought my fodera imperial from Austin bass traders, and the only thing I had to pay was the handling and the vat (tva in france as I live in France.)
Like myself, wait to see the euro/dollar being at the best rate for you when you pay your bass, and then you can talk with the seller to get the declared value lowered, that way, you'll pay less tax fees.
