I only have 2 basses, one an Ibanez that I tried at the store and liked, another a Fender USA P-J that I bought used on ebay. I'm happy with both purchases, but I would check carefully at what is being sold used online, ask for plenty of pictures, check the seller's history, etc.

I typically rely on local purchase for my bass guitars.
But still, I have purchased more than a few basses through on-line before as well, and they all had been good until my LAST purchase earlier this month.

I won an Ebay auction for a used US made G&L bass on Feb 29th.
But the seller sent me a bass with a crack at the neck pocket and a neck with a split glue joint at the bi-cut, both of which were NOT disclosed at all!!!

I opened a resolution case through Ebay customer support on the day I received the bass on Monday, March 5th because the seller refused to do anything.
So right now, I am waiting to hear from Ebay about the case decision that will be made by the end of this week.

Hopefully, I will get my money back because $700 is a lot of money to spend on a bass with a busted neck!!!

And after this experience, I will probably continue buying on-line, but for purchasing BRAND NEW basses ONLY whether I am buying from MF, GC Web or Ebay.
But I don't think I'll ever buy used basses without personally inspecting one first. Oh no, not after this highly unpleasant experience!

I will continue use Ebay, but for buying small items around $200 MAX.

On a $1500 bass 30% is $450. In my mind saving that kind of money is well worth looking at and considering used.

Depending on the company and "warranty" that can go a lot of different ways.. Shipping a guitar under warranty to Korea?? ug..

And depending on the Co. you deal with.. getting hosed is always a possibility, esp when something goes horribly wrong.

I hear ya but to me you have to figure you can get 15 to 20% off new at the store with sales and/or negotiation. So the savings is really more like 10% vs new and for me I'd rather pay that for the peace of mind and pristine condition.
