Double Bass Buying my second bass - Andreas Morelli

Did you replace the Bel Cantos? If your strings are not old then you likely need to get a soundpost check to see if you can help that E string. You should be getting enough sustain on that E string with a Spiro Weich. I'd do that before buying more strings.

I have confirmed the strings are not belcantos, but Spiro Weich's. Sound post was checked before purchase and seemingly good, although the luthier did notice some damage to the top around the sound post.

I moved the bridge up about 1/4" which puts it right in the middle of old markings, meaning someone else had it there for string length as well.

I wonder if this the cause of your buzzes?

Can't you take it back to the shop to adjust for this change?

FWIW I had a bass with a 43 1/4 SL and was not that big of a deal, I didn't really notice.
It was before TB told me that was long.

I have to say this is one pet peeve of mine. I'll set up a bass then they will move the bridge. Just because there are old marks on there doesn't mean they are correct. I always check to see if the nicks are correctly placed too. Have faith that your luthiers knows more about it then you.

The buzz was there before I ever did anything. I moved the bridge to compensate for the string length because it was nearly 43 and 1/2" before I did that. Putting in the old markings put it at 43" which seemed to make sense to me.

The luthier I visit is by all means not a setup expert, he's more of "take the top off or replace the neck" kind of repair man. However, after playing it more and more, I really don't notice the buzzing or think any adjustments need to be made. One day I might try swapping the E string for a medium gauge just to see if it improves but for now I'm totally happy with it.

This bass sounds amazing!!
