Buying Used Basses from GuitarCenter

I purchased one used bass from a remote GC, and thought this too. I assumed that 99% of the stuff that goes through there is guitars, and their guitar technician had no idea what he was doing and set it up accordingly.

Yeah, so basically, if you get a screamin' deal from GC used, you shouldn't count on it to be exactly right for you the minute you open the case. My experience won't exactly deter me from buying this way in the future- but I will proceed with caution.

On the other hand, you'll learn how to set up your own gear.. So in a way, not only did you get a (presumably) decent deal with great shipping and a very reasonable return policy, you also get an education.

I've only bought used basses from GC in person (never shipped from another store) but have made long-distance purchases over the phone from GC stores all over the US for electric guitars, guitar amps and pedals. It's super easy to pick up your purchase from a local GC or have it held at a UPS facility for your pickup, and when I had to return something that didn't work for me I only ate the shipping, which was never over $50 and I considered a "rental fee" for 30 days to demo an item in my home.

Say what you will about GC but their used gear and return policy is a pretty great deal to me. Of course, I'm holding my breath until my new-to-me Aguilat DB659 arrives...the only weak link I see in GC's operation is using UPS for shipping.
