buzz at first fret! help....

Its not a major issue, but just someting that irks me.

The neck is a MIJ jazz rosewood/maple neck set with low action. Im a hard player, and when I dig in while fretting the 1st fret of the E string theres noticable buzz coming from the nut. In a full band setting, the rattling is masked pretty well but when Im practising alone, it irks the hell outta me.

All the other frets are fine, as in they buzz but in a minimal way....just hard enough to get the 'grindy' sound. Its just the 1st fret on the E string.

I used to own a musicman which is set to a similar low action, and even when I dig hard while fretting the 1st, theres still nowhere as much buzz as this

I'm not clear on how the nut can buzz when you're holding the string down at the first fret. If the nut is cut too wide, you could try the backing soda/super glue trick to partially fill and re-file the slot.

I did some research on the net, and according to one source, it might be the cause of lack of relief. I confirmed this by using my left hand to bend the neck slightly upward(while fretting the 1st fret) and pluck with my right hand ala billy sheehan, and true enough the buzzing went away!

So i took a flathead screw and gave the truss rod a 1/8 anti-clockwise turn, and job done! btw its my first time adjusting the truss, and i have to say it couldnt have went any smoother.

Well, then your buzzing wasn't at the nut, as you first claimed, but at the next fret up. A little relief in the neck may help.
