Double Bass Buzz sound - does chancing the strings help?

When I used to work on cars -- out of necessity, not preference -- my approach to problems was to replace parts until the problem went away. Effective, but time-consuming, inefficient, and expensive.
Sure, your problem could be a loose winding on a string, but it could be a whole lot of other things: rattling bit of hardware, loose brace, open seam, string height too low, fingerboard needs a dressing, etc., etc. I would try to get an accurate diagnosis before throwing money at a new set of strings.

It's just my $0.2, but every double bass must have a little buzz
