byoc phaser

Did a search but didn't find much on this, anybody using this build, or should I go with the current phase 90 or other pedal. Just looking for thoughts, gonna move on from my multi effect unit, and I like phasing, flanging, and chorus. I plan on getting a bf-2, and a ce-5, just not sure on the phaser side of things.

I haven't tried the BYOC phaser, but I've heard lots of great reviews and clips. I also know that BYOC has a great analog chorus, and they have an analog flanger coming out soon that can do both chorus and flange.

I am planning on building both of these soon.

I'll just chime in with EHX products before Boo gets a chance to...
I've tried two phase 90's on bass: current Dunlop as well as a vintage MXR BUD Box script logo. I really liked how the script logo sounded (but it wasn't TBP, and you had to use a battery), but it wasn't really lush. The four-stage phasing is kind of hard to work around as well. The Dunlop reissue definitely doesn't hold a cnadle to the original. My personal favorite is the EHX Small Stone (Nano). It's the same size as a phase 90, but has a much lusher phase sound. Not as "wet" or "slurpy/glorpy/drippy" as some of the other boutique phasers out there, but it's definitely a great sound! :D

Also, you might wanna do a search on the EHX Stereo Electric Mistress (Chorus & Flanger pedal in one box).

I went on a limb and ordered one this week. I haven't received it yet, but once I do and put it together I'll give some feedback. Since it is based on the MXR 90 circuit it can't be any worse and can only be better since you can tweak components to your heart's desire.

I just finished building the BYOC Phaser and played it at a show last night. It is definitely a good phaser if you like the MXR 90. I kept the depth knob all the way to the right which is essentially the same spot as the MXR, but I do have the option to roll it back if I want.

For the price, it is a good kit with good results. Also since you put it together yourself it does give you a little more knowledge if you'd want to mod it later on, which is the main reason that I bought it. In hindsight though, I don't think I would change it that much since it turned out really well with the standard build.

Oh ... and no sound clips ... I don't have no stinkin' recording gear.

I finished a BYOC-based Phaser today (BYOC board, components from somewhere else).

Great pedal, excellent sound. I changed:

C1: from 0.01uF to 0.1uF
C10: from 0.05uF to 0.47uF

and the response at the low frequencies has improved dramatically. It is something you may want to try.
