C-G-C-F Tuning?

Does anyone tune their bass to C-G-C-F? (low to high)

I've never really seen this tunning too often, but I'm wondering this because this is Shavos' tunning from Sytem of a Down, and I want to learn some of their songs.

Thanks

Well it depends what era SOAD you're playing. If its from the Debut to "Steal This Album", its CGCF, and if its from "Mesmerize" or "Hypnotize" its tuned Db,Ab,Db,Gb.

Or just learn a 5 string and never detune your bass again. :)

I'm guessing by the smilie that you weren't entirely serious, but what about people who want to go lower than B? Should they get 6 strings with a low F# and never move their fretting hand up and down the neck? BOOOOOORRRRRIIIIIINNNNGGG. That's another reason I never liked the idea of using a 5 string tuned to standard to play drop C songs, I like to move my fretting hand around a lot. I'd hate to just have it sitting there in one spot. But hey, to each their own I guess.

I play a 4-string downtuned to BEAD and a 5-string downtuned to ADGCF. CGCF is pretty widely used in metal and heavier stuff like that. I don't use it as much, but I know alot of bassists who use it. It is pretty common, but not my preference.

Hey, I tune my bass down all the time to C, G, C, F. Most Metalcore and Metal bands detune to C. It makes the music sound heavier. With bass though you need to buy some heavy gauge strings or your stings can rattle a lot. I also find it easier to fret the strings too as they are not as hard to fret. hard though when you go back to normal tuning though haha. Use Invalid Link Removed if you are having trouble, it works great for me.

My band, too, uses dropped C guitar tuning but I use vanilla BEADG and occasionally CEADG (for songs with open string riffs that kill my fretting hand without the open C). Works for me.

Or just learn a 5 string and never detune your bass again. :)
I can't agree here, most bassists try to match their guitarists' tuning so they can play the fast open string riffs guitarists love to come up with without risking damage to their fretting hand. Sure, I double my band's open C guitar riffs in standard tuning, but some of them are so awkward to play without the open C I gladly tune to CEADG for a couple of songs.
