And quite frankly, the GK stuff "isn't a cost compromise."
They may not "be fancy" but they're solid tools, and what I gig with 90% of the time.
And in the case of the RB Series biamp ready stuff, I'd actually argue that they are fancy

For my money, I'd go with a GK MB500/MBFusion500/700RBII
and a GK Neo 8 ohm 212 or 410

My GK 700RB-II was $400, two used neo cabs = $600.

I bought a used Hartke LH1000 and AK410 for 600 bucks. It is great for small-medium gigs. The cab is only rated to 500w, but if you run the amp in bridge mode, you can make it work if you don't turn up the volume too high. This is a great option as it gives me the ability to grab another cab if ever necessary without getting a new amp. The sound is pretty great on this rig, but pretty simple. The LH1000 has a limiter, 3 band eq, and a "bright" mode. The cab is fairly light, but very well built, and fits in my Ford Fusion trunk easily.
