Cab Impulse Response Megathread

Can anybody recommend me the best Ampeg 810 cab impulse? Looking for something modeled after the 810AV or 810E (no stinkin tweeters).

The Shiftline SVT 810 cab IRs are labelled 810E. There are 3 versions with different responss in the top end. My favourite is available in their Bass IR pack, it's the "edition 2" version. Top end is subdued without extra hype in the bottom end.
Not sure if you would call this the "best" version, but it's my preferred 810E IR from my experience so far.

Here's a new addition from the good Dr. that I think I'll try soon too...

Dr Bonkers IR Files Cab Pack Tribute to Aguilar Amplification® DB412™ 4X12 Bass Cab
Awesome man, let us know how you like it. AGI 8x10 is one of my favorites from the bunch. I have the Aguilar 1x15 cab as well but now the 4x12.

I think I just got an email for that or something else from Dr.Bonkers recently. Not ready for more purchases just yet though.

I like the ENGL & Revv Cabs you get from the Glenn Fricker pack at Lancaster for guitar as well, I know that's not related to bass but I was just surprised at how much I liked them because I usually reach for something Mesa Boogie for guitar.

The Gallien-Krueger 410RBH sounds amazing both with the tweeter & without but I personally like it more without the tweeter on that one but it's definitely worth your time if you like to be able to easily add grit to this cab.

Sounds so good with a bit of dirt & clean. Definitely one of my favorites now, I even like it more than the 1993 model from Dr.Bonkers.

I've also been reaching for cabs mic'd with the Soundelux U97 across all most brands I've been noticing lately. A mic I never heard of & mistook for the Neumann U87 upon first glance.

I tried my hand at blending IRs in Audacity using the Nadir VST to apply the IR's and the Voxengo Deconvolver to generate a new IR of the mixed down track.

all based on the Redwirez XL410 IRs.
Generated a log chirp to a mono track inside Audacity
then appllied the IR's in seperate tracks for 5in speaker, port and cap edge of 10in
the bottom track is all mixed down to mono.

now to the test.

this is the frequency response of the blended track

and this the plot after reapplying the IR generated by the deconvolver from the exported wav of the blended track

As anyone can see, they are different.... no idea what went wrong during deconvolving.

So many branches in this rabbit hole to explore...
I'll keep you posted.

@jcburn - Right? That Hartke sound is what I remember in my head. I think the brightness of it might be good for a potential instrumental metal project I've got on the horizon...? I got the email on that DB412 model, it's definitely on my list to check out as well!

@Bonsist - The Aggie 8x10 is a top contender among the 8x10 models I currently have.

@OldogNewTrick - Thanks for the compliment! And some interesting frequency charts... Makes me wonder what the Hartke port IR and 5in IR would sound like together. Like you said, quite the rabbit hole!

I know the AGI2 8x10 I have is brilliant. Next time I'm shopping with Dr. Bonkers I'm grabbing that AGI 8x10 also since I have the Aguilar 1x15 from him as well. I'm a bit obsessed with is products & sheer options included in each pack. So many possibilities with his intricate packs. You can tell he's poured sweat & passion into his mission.

I actually forgot to make a line of presets based on my AGI2 8x10 last week because I was too busy having fun jamming through different cabs to save any so I'm doing it now & I'm not even made I have to go through this process twice for no reason at all. :D

let me add to the confusion by providing comparisons for the same mic position (XL410 CapEdge 4in) and different mics. Huge differences...

The AGI2 pack is the one I've got as well... I inquired before purchasing, and @dr bonkers explained the AGI vs AGI2 question for me: Basically the AGI2 pack is an "older model."

I'm curious as to which is your favorite IR? My fav out of the AGI2 pack at the moment is the 8X10_AGI2_D6_Blue_Blue_DBS, with a little EQing to tame down the huge low end. Digging it!

There are worse ways to spend time right now then going through IRs. :)

I'm still Jonesing for some kind of Ashdown ABM 10 inch IR (410/610/810). I realise most don't think of Ashdown cabs as "classic", but I find their live tone to be balanced, not hyped low end, no mid scoop, and nice (if slightly tamed) highs. I really like these cabs (the 610 and 810 are sealed and tweeterless and sound grand).
I'm still really digging this thread. I think my next journey with Dr. Bonkers will be around the Aggie 810 and 412.
My favourite IRs are still the Redwirez DB115 and the Shiftline Sunn 215 i think as simply plug and play with no extra EQ needed.

^^^ I just realized I mistyped it backwards above ^^^

The AGI2 pack is the updated response pack of the DB810!

Thanks for explaining that away above, I was actually wondering about that the difference between both Aguilar 8x10s too when I was shopping with him last but I figured it must be something like that so I instinctively just got the AGI2. I want that new AGI 4x12 I got an email for recently.

Question to @dr bonkers :

Why do you only used strongely voiced mic's and someone actually playing bass when generating your samples?

I can understand the appeal for recording work.

But to run the cab model live, wouldn't it be better to send a clean chirp through a solid state amp into the cab and record that with a calibrated measuring mic, like cab builders do when evaluating actual performance vs software models, and generate the IR from that?
