Cab Impulse Response Megathread

I'm gonna buy some Dr Bonkers IRs tonight.
Mesa Road Ready 810
Aguilar DB115
And now maybe the Marshall 810

What's your favourite mic @Bonsist and why?
For me that varies from Cab to Cab but at the moment I gravitate towards the old SM57/58, Neumann89i, AKG C414, Beyerdynamic M-160, AudioTechnica AT4033 & this mic I'd never even heard of called a Crown PZM-6D off the top of my head when I'm trying to make my own mixes but the ones he put together himself are top shelf.

I end up just having my demo on loop while I switch out tones to see how it fits in the overall mix so I'm flipping through lots of options quickly & barely have time to remember it all.

Right now I rate Marshall, Aguilar, Mesa Boogie, Ampeg, Orange by this order in the 8x10 Cab department.

I got these recently because I realized I had nothing from Markbass. I'm pretty happy with it. Worth the 10 bucks I paid.
They have a mid focused, warm, jazz with the neck pickup soloed vibe to them. I like to mix them with over cabs.
Recently I watched a video with Marcus Miller talking about him moving over to MB. He told them their cabs didn't have enough "booty." They brought out a special enclosure and tweeter just for him. Played a little and said "there's the booty."
These IRs are probably the regular line of cabs. It would be interesting to hear the Marcus line.

That's a great description of them actually. I like them & would buy them from again based on the MarkBass, just don't know what yet.

Lmfao! That's awesome man, I love Marcus Miller.

Yeah I thought they were the regular line too. Agreed, I'd love to hear the Marcus Miller ones as well.

These Dr.Bonkers packs I bought have DI files & power amp files which have 200ms & 500ms file sections but I have no idea what that really means yet. MS meaning time delay in milliseconds or what?

I think the DR Bonkers files are a single WAV file with the poweramp or DI signal already mixed in.
I think the differece in file length can alter the quality of the produced IR, but don't quote me on that, and I also don't really know HOW it alters the tone!!!
Hi and thanks for your support. This page may help answer your questions.
How to Avoid File Choice Overload When Using Bass or Guitar Cab...
The MicDI files have the power amp used for capture subtracted out of the files.

The PA files have the power amp included in the capture files.

My single mic choices for each cab pack are always listed in the PDF that comes included with each pack.

If there's anything else you need, always feel free to reach out to me.

Stay tuned. Someone PMed me with one.
That's awesome, I can't wait for that. I just realized last night that you posted here.

Hi and thanks for your support.
You're welcome! Thank you for having amazing Impulse Responses, you have the most unique stuff.
Left you a chuckle on page 15 of this thread lol :D

Oh thanks for that link, I'm going to definitely give that a read. I know I should just open the PDF's you attached, they're there for this reason lol

@dr bonkers - great you're checking in still!

I would love you to produce something that uses the Ashdown ABM blueline 10 inch speakers (ideally 410\610\810). I realise these speakers aren't boutique or unique in any way, but I find that they are quite tight in the bottom end and have a nice "just right" top end with no mud scooping going on. I love them and I can't seem to find anyone producing them as cabinet impulses.

I ended up grabbing your Traynor 215 and Marshall 810 packs last night, will have a play around today with them.

I didn't have much time to try many. I liked some of the single mic IRs of the Traynor 215. Haven't found a Marshall 810 I like yet. A few of the single mic IRs sound ok but a little "honky". I tried some of the Choice Mix IRs and there is a strange chorus type effect going on - maybe an incompatibility with my IR loader, not sure.
I'll keep playing. I'm still liking the Sunn 215 pack I grabbed ages ago.

I get some phasing issues if I mix certain files, especially at the same volume level on guitar for example.

From my very limited understanding, you're supposed to only mix the single files but use the already mixed ones on their own without mixing with another since they are already mixed? Maybe that's where your issue stems from? Not too sure though yet as I've never had much problems like that with bass IR's but definitely had some grief with mixing guitar IRs.

Has anybody out there tried out Redwirez' MixIR3 software? I've been wanting to find a way to blend multiple Cab IRs for use in my Stomp and it seems like a good option, but I'm not in love with the $60 price tag as I don't expect to use it very often once I've blended up some cabs that I like.

Any alternative options?

Mixing a bunch of files from different cab packs can yield strange results.

All files are phase aligned within a certain cab pack, but when you get to producing 17 cab packs and adding mics to the cabinet along the way, phase alignment between the files of different cab packs is nigh impossible.

You can try delaying a file if you are mixing two at a time. If you are mixing more than two, you would have to add them in individually as you phase align for bass. Guitar is much more forgiving I find, since it is not dealing 45 Hz or lower frequency wave forms for the most part.

I do a video on my site where I talk about building virtual guitar cab stacks and the mixes are really compatible. I never tried it with bass other than the Aguilar 8X10 and mix either the Aguilar 1X15 or Sunn 2X15. Using the HypeReal mixes, I never had issues.

Hey Doctor - my comment wasn't a slight against your offerings. I really like the Traynor and Sunn 215 cab IRs and will purchase more in the future.
I think I need to experiment more with the Marshall 810. I liked the one included in the free pack you did last year. Im using them in a Shiftline Cabzone. I'm not making any mixes, just plain single files. A few of the Marshall IRs seem to "chorus" the tone a little but I think it's more to do with the IR loader.
I think the next ones I try will be the Ampeg B15 and the Aguilar DB115.

Anyone have any recommendations for IRs to try out for vintage style 2x15 or something similar of that nature? I already have the Shift Line IR pack which has two incredible Sunn 2x15 IRs, but I'm looking for some more options. If love to track down an IR of an Acoustic 301 1x18 but I haven't found one yet. The Helix (which I use) has cab sims for a Sunn Coliseum 1x12 and 1x18 which are in the right ballpark but don't sound as good as an IR.

Just saw the Dr. Bonkers Tray 2x15 and will definitely purchase that!
