Cab Impulse Response Megathread

I might be a little late to the party maybe, but 3Sigma has an Acoustic 8x10 model in their bass cab lineup. Not sure if it's the 361 specifically though. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I snagged @dr bonkers MBGR 8x10 and Sula 2x12 IRs yesterday. Still tinkering around with these IRs, but so far... quite impressed with both, but the MBGR (Mesa Boogie Road Ready 8x10) in particular. I've only had maybe 30-60 minutes to do some comparisons with other fav IRs. I was able to add in a little grind with the SVT amp model in the HX Stomp, and holy crap it sounds nice with a pick. It'll be pretty killer for rock tones, but I still want to see what other tones I can dial in with it before I call it a "go to."

I'll see if it lives up to the Honest Amp Sim review of it being the Millenium Falcon of the bass impulse world, but so far I'm digging it a lot. Will report back, and maybe see if I can do an audio sample.

5sg.

Thanks for this @fivestringgecko but it is the B810 Acoustic Bass Cabinets | Neo Series | Acoustic Amplification. Looking for the vintage horn loaded 18" Cerwin Vega.

I'm looking specifically for Ampeg 4x10 or 8x10 cab sims. I'm trying to make a classic SVT patch to use with my Shiftline Olympic and I want to try different cabs. I can select different power amp emulations and cabs using this online tool: Olympic MkIIIS | Support

Shiftline has a good 810e in their IR pack but my favorite (so far, I havent tried many) is the Dr Bonkers 810.

I'd really dig some examples with a fairly flat mic, up close at cone if you ever have the time/ability 5SG. Most of the Mesa cab IRs I have had access to sound really mid scooped, boomy and clanky.....which isn't how I hear their cabs in real life. twice I've owned a Powerhouse 210, and although bright it was tight, mid focused and not harsh at all.

I can't justify the new prices of Mesa cabs but man do they sound rad!!!

I'll see what I can do! Probably won't get to dig in and explore that MBGR IR pack more until this weekend though. There's a lot to go through in that Dr. Bonkers pack in particular... There are 371 IRs in just the Single Mic folder alone! (12 different mics with 3 placement options on each of the 8 woofers in the cabinet plus two different tweeter options! :wideyed:)

I also have the week of Thanksgiving off with nowhere to go, so I can probably throw some audio together. Maybe I can do a comparison between the 8x10 cab IRs I've got: 3 Sigma Mes PWR IR, the two Ampeg 8x10 IRs in the Shift Line pack, and the Dr. Bonkers MBGR pack. Sadly I don't have the Redwirez Ampeg 8x10 IR because I bought the other three individually before they put them all into one big set.

Seems like the main IR creators (well, the most known here on TB anyway) all have some version of the Ampeg fridge IRs... At least, I'm assuming the one from Lancaster is an 8x10. They just say "based on the Ampeg SVT." You'd have to spend a little $ to compare them all personally of course, but look at it this way... $30-40 would be cheaper than an actual 8x10! ;) But if I can throw together some audio, maybe that will help a little.

I wish 3Sigma would go into a little more detail about their IR packs, it'd be much more helpful. I couldn't find any info on what cabinet their Acoustic IR pack was actually based on, so I wasn't sure. I checked the actual Acoustic site when I posted, but even that one doesn't have an 8x10 listed on their current cabs page, so I wasn't sure. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Seems like that's a pretty specific cabinet to be on the IR search for... Doesn't seem like there may not be many original Jaco cabs around anymore for people to make IRs of, so if you end up finding one, definitely report back here.

They just say "based on the Ampeg SVT."

Rightfully so. Yamaha owns the "Ampeg" name, and they do officially certify some IRs
Amplitube for example is certified by "Ampeg".
There's a few others but if you want Ampeg to certify/review the IRs you're not going to get it from just any IR maker.

It's not too hard these days for anyone to make IRs. Good or bad. IMHO It's better if the original manufacturers listens to them and confirms they meed the original intent of the cabinet, and then allows them to use the name "Ampeg"

It works the same for sample libraries. You can get someone to record a Steinway piano or Cremona violin, but it's not going to say "Steinway" or "Cremona" unless Steinway or Cremona says so.

JFYI: If you're a line-6 Helix or Helix Native user note:

As Ampeg is now Line 6’s sister company, all pre-1.80 Ampeg models have been renamed:

Amp > Bass > Tuck n’ Go is now called “Ampeg B-15NF
Amp > Bass > SV Beast Nrm is now called “Ampeg SVT Nrm
Amp > Bass > SV Beast Brt is now called “Ampeg SVT Brt
Cab > 1x15 Tuck n’ Go is now called “1x15 Ampeg B-15
Cab > 4x10 Rhino is now called “4x10 Ampeg HLF
Cab > 8x10 SV Beast is now called “8x10 Ampeg SVT E
That's all good

Yet they still do "Based on*" stuff like:
Ampeg SVT-4 PRO, based on* the Ampeg® SVT-4 PRO
Ampeg Scrambler (Mono, Stereo), based on* the Ampeg® Scrambler Bass Overdrive

This seems crazy as Yamaha owns 'Ampeg' and Line-6. Maybe the sold some of the Modeling and IR rights so they themselves need to say "Based on"

Hey everyone - is anyone using cab IRs within different IR loading devices?

For example - has anyone used the same IR in a Two Notes Torpedo, then in a Nux Bass preamp or a Shiftline Cabzone?

Odd question I know - just interested to know - with all other EQs flat/off etc I was wondering if the IR files sound the same across different units?

Jake.
I use the older Ignite IR loader and occasionally the new STL one. No issues with the different brand IR files. They are really just EQ files that change the bass tone.

Thanks, I just loaded your SBB 8x10 (Ampeg) and it's hitting the sweet spot. I'm using it with a Strymon Iridium and I was worried that the Marshall amp sim would restrict the frequency range, but no, the low end is definitely there with the IR. And thanks for the tip about mixing it with a DI.

you can turn the amp sim off and keep the cab sim only using a special power-on mode.

Tried the Science Amplification 610 and 215 IRs tonight. I'm on the fence a little - initially I thought they sounded good. They both have a very bold character and do sound like a 610 and 215, but I think they are both a little bass heavy and the top end sounds maybe a little muffled, or not as open as I want to hear? That's what I hear through over ear headphones. I haven't tried all the mic placements yet, and do admit the IRs do sound good - I just think at this stage I like my IRs to sound a little flatter response wise.
More experimenting tomorrow after work. I'm hoping tomorrow I also get my new Shiftline Cabzone X in the mail. It left Russia 19\12.

Hello guys! I've been reading all this thread and it's really interesting. I've been experimenting with IRs in my HX Stomp and I'm looking for some good IRs. I will buy some that you said (interested in the Aguilar DB and Mesa cabs).

However, I haven't found any information about Ashdown cabs. So far, my ABM 410 cab is one of my favourite cabs and I'd love to have something to emulate it in my fly rig. @jcburn was also looking for something like that. Does any of you have any luck finding one?

I tried those IRs in my Stomp, but I'm wondering if they were formatted with a sample rate that the Stomp doesn't like... I get nothing but silence. :meh: Oh well.

I've been totally slacking on finishing up my 8x10 IR comparison. I finally picked up a bass last night for the first time in almost 3 weeks to play in the New Year. Really been lacking motivation lately.

The Redwirez Aguilar DB115 is a top fav IR, and sounds great paired with the Stomp's B-15 amp model. The Dr. Bonkers Aguilar DB810 is pretty monstrous (and partnered with the Stomp's Aguilar DB751 or SVT amp models), but a couple of the mic models require a little EQing to tame.

I also haven't seen any Ashdown impulse responses in any of my IR wanderings.

I like the Redwirez Aguilar DB115 too out of all of the Redwirez..... Well I should say I like it for recording and IEMs.

I've found for sending my pedalboard sound straight to a desk the best sound fir me comes from the Shiftline IRs. The Redwirez IRs straight to my desk are too bassy and muddy.

I think I need a new hobby Covid-19 isolation and IRs have me obsessed.

Ownhammer has pretty good 4x10 Ampeg cab sims. I like them.
