Cab lights?

Right, because the girls always come back for some of that hot superior management. :)

I think this idea is cool, not sure if I would put it on my rig though, more to worry about.

True about those girls... always thinking ahead.

Honestly the lights are the one thing that I never have to worry about. If they fail (which they never have...) so what? they're just lights!

This could go both ways... A very good friend of mine is into show bands. The music is kinda simplistic, but his thing is visual, visual, visual. He's been known to stick lightbulbs onto old acoustic guitars to get a crowd reaction. LED lights on stage cabs would be something he'd encourage.. in fact he's thinking of having me build him up a 4-10 guitar cab, and I wouldn't doubt there would be something along those lines in the request..

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm in a cover band and was looking for a way to differentiate from otter bands in the area. I don't think flashing lights will detract too much from our rendition of Runnin' with the Devil. I going to go ahead with the lights and just not use them if it turns out tacky looking. Will post pics when completed

I respectfully disagree with everyone who thinks people are captivated and stay to watch your band simply because of your musicianship. Sorry, unless you're a huge name, most people don't come into a bar to stare at and worship a bland band dressed in black just because you can hold a guitar. My humble opinion.

Having worked for Disneyland entertainment for years, their bands and stage shows were all about colors, lighting, movement, enthusiasm, smiles, audience participation and fun. Black lights, fluorescent costumes, the works.

Making music is a little part of what we do on stage; making a visual impact is the big other part. If these little lights contribute to that, more power to ya, bro.

Again - just my opine. You wanna wear black on a dark stage, knock yourself out.

I'm putting together plans for a fEARful 151566. I was thinking of running LED rope lights or EL wire around the edge of the cab under the spear grill and maybe around the speakers. Here's a link to what I was thinking of using:

Has anyone ever tried anything like this? Any thoughts on my plan?

My philosophy is, don't be a sheep (a follower). Your mind is not for rent. Do your own thing in life, regardless of what others say you should or shouldn't do (as long as it doesn't hurt anyone of course). If you want LED's on your cab, I say go for it and rock the friggin hell out of it!

Big +1

I'm not a KISS fan, but I have to wonder how successful they would have been if they wore jeans and stood still on an average-lit stage and just relied on their music to sell themselves.

Besides, who are we to determine what someone else should or shouldn't do (unless of course our self-importance is over inflated). If the OP wants LED's on his cab, I give him two thumbs up for not wanting to be like everyone else.

I have actually worked with EL wire and it is a fun thing to mess around with. However, I have always been disappointed by the sound chasing properties I ended up with. Most of the receivers are overloaded by the decibel levels you get in a live performance. You end up with a constant light or a weak looking strobing. Not exactly what you imagine when you start out and invest in the components! Still there may be a way around this if you experiment.

Never did and will never do to my rig but I say, it's your rig so have fun at it :) Post pix when you're done.
My goodness....I never thought that simple lights in bass cabs would create such a long thread. If it is your rig, why not have fun with it? There is no right and wrong here. If you want lights, put them in. If you don't, leave them out. It's your choice to decide not someone else. I like the lights myself and the effect works for me. For others it does not and that is OK. We run our bass rigs our way by what we like and what we like varies and that is OK. To light or not to light, Black tolex or Red, White(nothing to do with sound) ......solid state, tubes or hybrid, combo amp or head amp and cabs, casters or no casters, it all boils down to what we like and that is OK. I just ordered the RGB LED parts to light up my cabs and amp head. I am going to have fun with it and that is the point is it not? I will post a pic after I have completed the install. I don't have to drill holes or alter the structure of my cabinets. Magnetic strip LED lights allow placement on my amp head without damaging the paint finish. This is going to be fun.

You do realize that was posted almost 7 years ago don’t you?

Regardless, people should do what they want and not worry about other’s opinions.
