Cab lights?

You do realize that was posted almost 7 years ago don’t you?

Regardless, people should do what they want and not worry about other’s opinions.
Yes,,,,but recent interest is opening up new protracted discussions. Technology has changed quite a bit and many people are asking about the subject. My intent is not to say who is right and who is wrong but to provide some information for people who are interested. For many, playing an instrument is doing your own thing and some wish to use lighting in the process.

Completely agree, hence my second statement above.

Check out this thread - LED Strip Lights in Cab (x-post from the UK)

Inspired me to try this on my fEARful 15/6 - could be fun, and maybe I'll post pics if I actually complete it. I used to hang black-light strips on the front of my cabinet, but this would much cooler and I wouldn't have to worry about backing into my cab and breaking a bulb.

John
I experimented with some lights last week just to see if they would work. Here is a pic. Took me ten minutes to put the test lights in. The lights from Hitlites come with a controller with an audio in jack to sync the lites to my bass only. I'll put a few pics up when I complete the install.

I ordered all the parts mostly from Hitlites

People are asking me "why"and my response is that people are asking if I have lights on my bass cabs. Seems to be the thing with some people here who just happen to do the hiring of bands for their gigs. So, for the gigs that don't require this, I will leave the lights off. For the gigs that do, I will turn them on. It is like the paint on a new car.....it does not add to the performance of the engine and yet we still want a certain color paint job. If a client wants the cab lights, I will turn them on. If a client does not want cab lights, I will leave them off.

The Cooler Master magnetic bar lights came in and they are a perfect fit for the top of my amp head. Will be going to Lowes to get a staple gun to tack down the double sided tape (of which I am using one side as the idea of sticking double sided foam tape to the inside of my cabs bothers me) Hitlites order is due to come on Monday. I will put up pics for those who are interested. Universal LED Strip RGB | Cooler Master
The magnet holds them in place really well and no damage to the paint on my amp head. Just attach, connect and power up.

I respectfully disagree with everyone who thinks people are captivated and stay to watch your band simply because of your musicianship. Sorry, unless you're a huge name, most people don't come into a bar to stare at and worship a bland band dressed in black just because you can hold a guitar. My humble opinion.

Having worked for Disneyland entertainment for years, their bands and stage shows were all about colors, lighting, movement, enthusiasm, smiles, audience participation and fun. Black lights, fluorescent costumes, the works.

Making music is a little part of what we do on stage; making a visual impact is the big other part. If these little lights contribute to that, more power to ya, bro.

Again - just my opine. You wanna wear black on a dark stage, knock yourself out.
No disagreement here. Light and sound is the name of the game out there. I went to Disneyland years ago when I was a boy in the late 60s and I remember the Electric Parade.....lights and music and it is no different now....just more sophisticated with DMX, LEDs and lasers.

Zombie thread and old quotes
In 71, one of my rich college dormmates, had light panels that ran off his stereo, Christmas tree lights so the technology been around for almost 60 years.
Since the blinked based on frequency, it sound triggered, zombie thread and zombie technology.

My brother had filament Christmas lights connected to his stereo back then as well. There was no DMX, RGB LEDS or line in audio to trigger sync the lights just RMS voltage across polarized speaker terminals. The RGB tech is newer than the incandescent bulb tech you are describing. The incandescent bulb has been around since Edison invented it. RGB LEDs are newer by comparison as is the DMX programing. That technology has been around since the 80's. The idea for DMX came about in 1986, when the United States Institute of Theatre Technology adopted it as an easy, adaptable and reliable way to control multiple lights and other intelligent fixtures, such as fog machines. The concept of using lights for show has been around since the invention of the light bulb and arc lights. That concept has not changed but the technology has evolved over the years. I am using program controlled/ audio line-in synced RGB SMT lighting strips here not Christmas tree filament lights triggered by a a mic or non discriminating RMS voltage. The RGB tech is 32 years old. The concept of using lights for show is over a 100 years old.

I'm putting together plans for a fEARful 151566. I was thinking of running LED rope lights or EL wire around the edge of the cab under the spear grill and maybe around the speakers. Here's a link to what I was thinking of using:

Has anyone ever tried anything like this? Any thoughts on my plan?
Well this likely won’t happen to you because the audio levels at the cab are very high compared to any noise that may be induced by lights.

Got a call one evening from the DJ at the radio station that I tech.
They were hearing a slight, periodic clicking noise when the mic was on.
So I turn on the radio and listen for a bit and sure enough, there it was, at intervals of a couple of seconds or so.
So I head on in to the station and when I walk into the studio, I immediately see the problem.

Oh! I forgot to mention that it was Christmas time.
The DJ, feeling especially festive, decided to wrap some flashing christmas lights around the microphone boom arm.

Well that meant a current turning on an off. The mic cable carrying very low level signals mean the current induced when the lights switched on or off was being amplified right along with the announcers mic signal.

Like I said, you probably won’t experience this, but it goes to show how some seemingly harmless thing can cause unexpected problems.
