cab mod on old 2x15

Hi I had an old empty peavey 2x15 cab that I put new mattress topper in and a carvin 600 watt 15" 4ohm neo (made by eminence) that I had laying around. I was going to eventually put in two 8ohm speakers to use as a 4ohm rig.

Im also looking into a 2 channel power amp to power my rpm preamp and this 2x15.

I am also considering to just get another 4ohm speaker (since I already have 1) instead of two 8ohm and just rig these up each with their own input on the back of the cab...

My question is could I also connect these together with the 'option' to run separately or together as a 2 ohm load (as long as the power amp I get can handle a 2 ohm load of course)?

So Im thinking each speaker having its own input and then another 2ohm input that powers both speakers when I want that option. Can this be wired this way?

Thanks!!

2 or 8ohm?????

I want to run them at either 4 ohms each so they would each have their own input on back of cab OR use another input that I would have to install so that they become one 2ohm load.. I am wondering if they can be wired this way so that I have the choice by just choosing which input I use ??

Thanks for any help!!!

You can wire them as two independent speakers @ 4-ohm each, 2-ohms total with two speakers in parallel, or 8-ohms total with two speakers in series, but you have to use a switch to keep the combinations isolated.

Thanks but I dont understand how this can be switched (on the fly) between a 2ohm or 4ohm load??

Maybe Im not explaining it correctly....

Picture the back of my 2x15 cab loaded with two 4ohm speakers.
Each speaker will have an input behind it so they will each be driven by a separate channel from my power amp at their 4ohm loads.

I also would like (if possible) to have a [third input] combining the two speakers for a 2ohm load so that when I use this input only 1 channel of power amp would be used and I could also add another cab to the second channel of the poweramp.

Is it possible to wire my cab this way? Would I need a disconnect "switch" or something or??? Is this possible?

Thank you!!

Thanks StealthFighter I must have been typing while you were:)

Ok so I could just wire the switches accordingly and have my choice by choosing appropriate input when needed or the Switch would do the work?

Thanks for your help!!

Just wire each 4 ohm speaker to its own jack and they will each be 4 ohms like you want . If you want to run at 2 ohms just plug both cables into the same channel of an amps speaker out . Nothing complicated about that . You can also put two jacks on the back for each speaker , then you will be able to tie the two sides together with a speaker cable and run one cable to the amps output at 2 ohms . Easy , no switch needed ..
