Cab placement issue on gig

I'd be afraid that a box with solid sides would resonate with some frequencies, whereas an open crate wouldn't. Am I wrong?
A box would resonate if not sturdily built. So do speaker cabs. :hmm:
The main difference with a box is that with a solid surface between the cab and floor there's less loss of acoustical coupling between the cab and floor. But that's not necessarily an advantage, you want to lose some coupling in a boomy room.

About 2 hours before my band's show on Friday, I bolted a couple of L-shaped brackets to the rails of my rack case and threw a block of wood into my gig bag. Attached is a photo of the result. I was able to hear myself just fine.
