Cabinet load

Yes but consider the event of the guitar player (it's always the guitar player!) knocking your bass over and leading to feedback. You can blow a cabinet in short order with an accident like this.

After blowing drivers on three different occasions over the years as a consequence of momentary lapses in good judgment (my choosing not to play 'phantom bass' after a guitarist turned up too loud), I hit upon a rig solution which worked for me:

An *amp with enough wattage for clean head room under most circumstances + a **speaker load which handled F-A-R more power than the amp could put out = no more blown drivers.

The "low end, high end" thing is just something I'd want to experiment with. I had an idea for a sort of bi-amped setup where the low end goes to a solid-state amp driving a 15" cab while the high end goes to a tube amp driving a cabinet with 10" or 12" speakers. Sort of transcend what Chris Squire did...

Maybe the low end could go to a 1x15 and a 2x12?
 
Why? Splitting the lows and highs is fine, recommended even, but using more than one driver size for the lows, or any passband for that matter, serves no useful purpose.

How so?

I'm just interested in a decent poweramp that will feed a decent cabinet. Say, an SWR 750. However, most 15" cabinets only do like 500 watts. If the amplifier exceeds the cabinet wattage, the cab could blow up or any other form of damage could take place.

Maybe a 2x15 instead or something?
