Cabinet porting

I have an old Carvin 1x12 cabinet about 1.4 cf with a 3x3 port loaded with an Eminence S2012. It has a piezo tweeter that I never use. I'm wondering if anything would be gained from removing the tweeter and making this into another port. Eminence actually has a recommended enclosure design for this speaker and cab of this volume using 2 3"x5.843" ports, which seems like it would tune to about the same fb. How would adding another port and using Eminence's port size for both affect the sound?

Best case: You wouldn't notice that much difference.
Worst case: The cab will sound thin. Then you'll have to plug the hole.
Either case: You'll ruin the resell value of the cab.

Worst case, you will reduce the mechanical power handling of the speaker to well below the rated power.

In RMS units, the rated power (under ideal tuning and with the manufacturer's specified HPF if needed), the S2012 is 150 watts. Improperly tuned, this can go down to below 100 watts RMS.

You will really ruin the resale value when the driver gets damaged... and the resale value is really only the value of the driver itself anyway.

Is the eminence the original driver the cab was designed for, or is it something someone has stuck in at random?

If its the original driver that the cabinet is tuned for then best not to mess with it, but if it's not the correct driver and not tuned for the cab wouldn't it be better to get the cab as close as possible to an eminence design rather than leave it totally at odds with the driver?

That's why I'm asking. It's not the original driver. The cab sounds fine now but I'm wondering if anything would be gained from using Eminence's design since the cab is about the right cf for their recommended design for this driver. I'm not woried about resale value. I could also just put a tweeter back in if it doesn't work out.

I was hoping someone knowledgabe could tell me what happens when you add port volume/area but keep the cab at about the same tuning. Are there only drawbacks? A lot of the 1x12 cabs on the market seem to have larger ports, 2 4" ports or large shelf ports.

To me, this indicates that it would be fine -- recommended even. I doubt you'd need to trim the length of the duct to the accuracy of three decimal places though -- 5-13/16", or even 5-7/8" for the length would be more than accurate enough. This is presuming you would keep the 3" diameter.
