cabinet?

hi, at the moment i have a nice little 60watt marshall amp, but ive had it for as long as ive been playing (about 4 years now) and its developed quite a bad hiss problem. it realy spoils the sound when my bands playing together (were just practicing at this stage in time) so now im thinking of getting a new one for my birthday:) however im not sure whether to buy an actual amp, speaker included, or to just buy a cabinet speaker, and hook my old electronic system up to it.
would this be possible? any advice?

Are you sure the hiss is coming from your amp? Do you still get a hiss when you do not have an instrument cable plugged in?

If you have a combo amp that hisses, it will probably hiss no matter what speaker you plug in to it. If you have a Marshall MB60 and cabinet, you will need to unplug the current speaker, but you will still be lugging around the whole combo along with the cabinet.

if you're going to start playing gigs or something, I'd suggest upgrading to something like an acoustic combo or similar. more watts and you can always turn down.'

on the other hand, I had a friend who tried to use a what amounted to a car stereo for bass and it sounded terrible. absolutely awful.
