Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, 1970 at the fabulous Forum in LA (Inglewood, to be more precise).
I've ony seen them once (I did see SS with Manassas, another time) in the summer of 1974. They "headlined" the show; Jesse Colin Young, The Band, and Santana "opened" the show.
My first concert with my best friend (we were both 12) was Ten Years After in 1972, with opening act Wild Turkey. A month and a half later we got our first instruments for Christmas, he got drums and I got a guitar. I never even picked up a bass until 8 years later at the age of 20.
Not my firsts, but these were the most outstanding.
ELVIS was the most life changing. I had become a metal head, and thought Elvis was outdated, and kind of ‘old school‘.
I WAS WRONG.
He was the most talented, enigmatic performer I had ever seen, & still holds that ranking, though I’ve seen thousands of major acts since. I was humbled, and shown how misguided I was, & my outlook on performing was changed that night.
These were some of the best.
