First concert I went to: Jefferson Airplane, outdoors, summer 1969. I was 14. My friend and I didn’t have tickets, so we went and stood by the fence. Then we realized that people were jumping the fence, so, over we went.....

Later that fall, we bought tickets to see The Guess Who. It was a very good concert by a very underrated band. First time I had seen stage lights, heard rock music played very loud, and smelled marijuana burning. I doubt our parents would have allowed us to go, had they known about that part of the show.....

My Mom, Hippy dippy that she was :) , and my Aunt, also a hippy, took my cousin and I to a San Fransisco concert with several bands playing in a park. My memory is vague but my Mom assures me the first band to play was a local group called Frumious Bandersnatch.

The first I remember with perfect clarity was when my aunt ( the same one from above ) took me and the same cousin to see Exile at Cal Expo. Leif Garret opened for them.

1979, KISS - Dynasty tour

Mine as well, but I’m not really sure if it was 78 or 79. They had the Dynasty outfits, though, so it could have been 79. No show quite like it at the time.

And Kiss be damned, I’ve been an Ace fan all my life. He’s The One that made me start playing. Saw him in New Orleans (HoB) a few years ago, he’s still got it. LOVE his Duncan Donuts commercial (it’s on YouTube).

That was MY first full-on rock concert too, same band, same year, in Montreal. The best part was, my high school English teacher hooked me up with the tickets when I wrote an essay on the topic of my favorite band - AC/DC. My parents had no idea who AC/DC was, but they figured if my teacher was OK with the band, then that was good enough for them. I believe I suffered permanent hearing loss when they fired the cannons near the end of "For Those About to Rock", and I loved every minute of it. Angus Young was BEYOND HUMAN.

I couldn't hear sh!t for a month; it wasn't so much the canons but the Marshall speakers I stood close to. That was one loud show!!
