One nice thing about growing up in England...such a great scene...so many great bands then
yeah, it was pretty cool, but I was a little too young to really understand what I was seeing and hearing. The music made a big impression on me, though, and I started to pay more attention to RnB, and , eventually, Blues. But I still remember that Kustom tuck n roll rig . Never saw anything like that ! Years later, I wound up buying one and really dug it, especially after I put JBL's in it !

I saw this tour in Seattle in 1977. UFO and Max Webster opened; Rush came on late...fortunately the two huge flashpots they set off during Farewell to Kings shook me out of my several-hours-into-a-70's-dime-bag stupor (I mean we used to hang out in line for hours before the doors even opened...).
I have a vague recollection that I saw Yes the same weekend ("Going for the One" tour, with Alan White and Rick Wakeman). Blew my little High Schooler mind. Gateway experiences for the many Dead shows that came later
Trini Lopez, 1965. My dad was a fan so he took the family to concert, I don't remember what city but it had a round stage, Anaheim or Los Angeles.
It was just Trini on stage. A pit band/orchestra on the floor near the stage.
Bass player had a P and a black Fender Dual Showman with the 2x15 cab vertical. He got a small solo during the gig.
I didn't want to be Trini, I wanted to be the bass player! Weird little guy I was.
. My parents were more supportive of my aspirations after we went to the concert and I told them I liked the bass player.
Anyways, a bit later I was in a band, playing bass.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Depends on your definition of "concert". If you mean "live performance in an auditorium/concert hall", then I'd have to say The Beach Boys, in 1975 at Boise State. Otherwise? Yeah, I can beat that. The Cavern Club, Liverpool, fall of 1963. The Beatles (you know; that German band from Hamburg?), just before their recording contract. And, gotta tell ya - they were one Hell of a good club band, too...

I always loved that record cover - it's the same 3 or 4 people, with different haircuts, moustaches, clothes, repeated front and back (and they seem to be smirking at the splat the diver made, into an empty pool, rather than the splash he was hoping for).
Gods willing I hope to see that statue myself this summer. When I was a college DJ I almost always ended my shows with "As the Crow Flies" (from Irish Tour '74). Long overdue to pay respects...looking forward to it.

Many concerts and a couple years later I got to see a little known band called AC/DC
with Bon Scott on vocals and Molly Hatchet opening in Sept 1979. Just 5 months later
Bon Scott was found dead. I'll never forget that show.

My parents used to take me to all sorts of classical and jazz concerts when I was a little kid...like 4 or 5 years old. No idea who any of the artists were (other than drummer Jerry Betters, who was our neighbor and gave me my first pair of drumsticks).
First concert where I was consciously aware "oh wow, this is a rock'n'roll concert and I'm in the audience!" was Chubby Checker circa 1972, playing on some flatbed truck in the middle of the football field at my local high school.
First concert I attended as a spectator without parental accompaniment was Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention in 1974. Now that will mess your mind up fo sho!

I saw YES in '79, also in the round but in PHX. Had a terrible tooth ache but they were so damn good.
I can just imagine you guys running off with the boot and Gene having to go on stage with one boot. That would've been the lady's last day on the job.

They must've had multiples....This one was clearly for stage use and was all kinds of beat up.Missing metal squares, dried stage-blood splatter, and the plastic dragon's head foot-cover was really scuffed up and splitting apart.You can see the gap in the front teeth and the platform through it and at the heel.
Great show...Detective with Micheal Des Barres singing,opened.
A few weeks later we got $9.50 checks for the set-up work.
