Cabinets for Mesa Walkabout (Fearful?)

With a Walkabout, you would not be getting " a few hundred watts ", with the fEARful 12/6, more like 150 watts. If any SINGLE cab designed by Dave would be a good one carry solution, I would pick the Bassic 15. My 4 ohm Bassic with the Faital driver is more than enough for a smallish gig, without FOH, and I would love to try a Walkabout head with it.

Even at 150 watts... Sensitivity specs at 100hz only tell you so much about bass specific performance.

That said a 4 Ohm bassic would be pretty sweet with a WA. Not DIY though.

WA Isn't terribly articulate on it's own, but should be with those cabs. I briefly had a WA with a Fearless 115. It was nice, but not terribly loud. For my needs, more cab would be needed.

I have a fair amount of experience with Mesa amps and Greenboy cabs.

The Walkabout is frustrating because it sounds terrific, but just runs out of gas too quick. I've gigged both the M6 and M9 with an F115 and thought it was pretty great. The M6 really sounds good in a band mix for what I like. Haven't tried the Prodigy but the Strategy sounded awesome to me

If you like the sound of a Walkabout running out of gas, does that make it fEARless/fEARful friendly?

I would love to hear from any of you that tried the Walkabout with a power amp, or through the Return of a more powerful bass amp. Was it the same or did things sound different ?

I still need to try my idea once I get a cab that my 1001RB won't turn to ash.

However, the general verdict is that some of the magic was lost when using a power amp. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has tried it with a more powerful bass amp.

This would be pretty much anyone who ran a DI out of this amp to FOH - which would be most people trying to use this anemic amp on stage with one cab.

Is not that a fearful wouldn't make the most of this amp. It's that the amp wouldn't take full advantage of the fEARful.

As a longtime Walkabout lover, I used to think the mPulse 600 could not cop the WA tone.....but after having played an mPulse now for about 6 months, I know I can get the Walkabout sound I prefer from the mPulse 600, which has plenty of power through a pair of 12s for my needs. YMMV, of course, and we all may be seeking slightly different flavors from the Walkabout, so there's that.....

My Walkabout through LDS 15/6 and true fEarful 12/6 experience was mediocre. I don't care for the match. Again, YMMV.

Personally:
I don't like the Walkabout with fEARful stuff. The LF drivers want more horsepower than that, in my opinion.
Now: the M6 will -kill- with those. Totally. Do that and enjoy.

fwiw: I used a Walkabout for a loooong time. With a lot of different cabs. I dig it's baseline clean tone. I don't like it's overdriven tone (it does that well enough, I just don't care for that thing). And; it just didn't have enough clean power for me.

Great discussion here guys, a ton of good information! Thank you! I am really liking the looks of the Berg cabs, just seen the new CN210s on their FB page, at 34 lbs that is crazy lightweight, and should have high enough watts rating for whichever of the three Mesa amps I throw at them.

I play my walkabout through Genz Benz Focus 112LT's. I have two. They are super light and I have few complaints; handle placement being one. I play through one at practice as well as many gigs and through both at larger clubs or outdoor gigs. I do play in a 3 pc. but have a loud drummer and guitarist. For the weight and portability, I can't complain at all.

I'm currently using my 8ohm Walkabout combo with 1 Baer ML112. It does a good job for volume and tone.
I've used the WA head with an assortment of cabs, my favorite being the Berg NV610. I've found that adding a larger cab(more speaker area) with the WA will get you through most club level and even out door gigs. I played a backline supplied gig 2yrs ago where I used my WA into an SVT 810. It was more than adequate, one of the other bands on the bill had another 810 of his own, so for giggles we put both on stage with the WA driving them both. I used it for half a set, it was heavenly and VERY loud.
Only cabs I'm entertaining to add is the Barefaced Retro 610, or a Fearless Dually for big gigs.
