I've picked up a powered monitor and plan on hooking it up to the monitor out on my PA. Should I use instrument cable or speaker cable?

Since you're (edit) NOT using it for power, you'll be fine with a standard instrument cable.

What brand/model of monitor? Most powered speakers use a standard mic cord. Some will work with an instrument cable. Do not use a speaker cable.

Modulus makes a good point, your setup might use XLR cables. If that's the case, you won't have to worry about instrument vs. speaker cables.

Depending on the make and model of the mixer and the speaker, you'll want an XLR mic cable, a 1/4" TRS cable, or a cable with a TRS on one end and an XLR on the other.
