I did some R&D for the audiophile company Audience years ago for instrument cables that they produced for a while under their "Conductor" line. In return they gave me some of the cables, which sound great - so much so that I have a hard time using any others. Unfortunately they are not very robust in terms of handling the stress of frequent gigging, so I have a pile of them that are in need of repair. The failures are mostly at the jack connections or in the wire near the jacks - typical stress points. The company has phased out the line and declined to repair these, which kind of sucks.
My soldering skills are not that great, so I thought I might try to find a service that repairs cables. Does anyone out there knows of a reliable vendor of that nature? I've done a little searching in my area and came up empty, so I'd be ok with shipping them off if necessary.
I know one valid response to this is: why don't I just go out and buy some new cables, particularly ones that are better at withstanding normal use without failing? I've gone that route, but I'd still like to have a functional stash of Audience cables, even if I just have them for studio use. Since I didn't pay anything for them I don't have a problem with shelling out to get them repaired, within reason.
I hope this query doesn't start any flame wars about the relative merits of different cables or "cable voodoo" - that is a separate conversation that I'd prefer not to get into here, so if you're inclined to respond along those lines please just start another thread.
