most violin basses i've played are pretty heavy on the low end and not much on the highs. this one seems like it's the opposite. well, it does seem to have plenty of low end, but it's very bright.

well sorry guys, but scratch that part about it being really bright. turns out there's a treble boost switch that cuts lows and boosts highs, and i didn't know it because it was way too dirty to work. i just sprayed the crap out of it with deoxit again, and with the treble boost off, it turns out this bass sounds pretty much like what you'd expect from a violin bass...big low end, not real bright unless you eq it that way.
so now, all i have to do is clean it up a little, put straploks on it, maybe figure out some way to tape that little piece that cracked off the truss rod cover since the glue wouldn't stick, and give it a full setup, and i should be able to gig it soon enough!

you can eq it to sound like what you want, but in its natural state through a flat response amp, it's this big throbbing mass of low mids from 100-200 hz that makes darn sure you're not out of the mix ever. people think of them as this prissy little sound when in fact they're the most brutal basses i've ever played. you don't cut through the mix with it...you kick it in the sack

i can't tell you guys how over the moon i am right now! i fixed everything, and it is now kicking major ass! it's a completely different bass from what it was when i got it. and it's a freaking radio shack bass! how cool am i?

did you buy that off torin opper? dude, i really wanted to buy that bass at one time. but i am a realistic endorser now.
Yeah it's the one from Torin and it's an incredibly cool little bass but I gotta start being more...er, realistic (ouch) about living on a boat. So when yer endorsement deal goes sour (and I'm confident it will) the Tele will be waiting for you.
had to bag the tapewounds. they were too thick for the hardware. they would bind in the nut slots and they wouldn't fit inside the hole in the tuners. got a used set of d'addario half rounds on it for now.

wow, i was so excited to get that bass working, and i painstakingly and lovingly slapped together a quick demo for you guys, and all i got was one comment? sheesh! what good is buying a new bass if you can't post about it on tb and make people gush over your soundclips?

Whoa, that's one serious bass cut there. I love the sound of the normal non-bright setting there. Is that with a set of Chromes on it?
And is that a 32" scale?
