Calling all headbangers-Need help completing a playlist project.

Definitely the hardest, of the hardcore, the heaviest iron sharpening iron sledgehammer of all time.

Jani Lane killed himself over this song. I personally think it's fine hair metal, but if you listen to deeper cuts like "Uncle Tom's Cabin" he had a lot more to say and was a more versatile song writer than this displayed. Unfortunately this became his trademark and he hated it so much that he killed himself over it.



And shortly thereafter he did.

I've been trying to create a chronological heavy metal playlist encompassing all important bands, and genres. This is where I am so far, but I know I've probably overlooked some things. Particularly my post 2000 knowledge is a bit sparse.

I'd like to get input on it as is and any suggestions for things I've over looked.

For old school metal don't overlook Rainbow, especially anything off the Long Live Rock And Roll album. (Avoid the stuff after Dio left).
Also you need to get some Kreator in there.
Slow it down with some Paradise Lost.
Light up that pipe with The Sword (NOT "Sword", a hair band from the 80's), Sleep, Grief, and Bongzilla.
Freshen up with Toxicholocaust.
Unleashed, Dismember and Sinister are essential Swedes.
Benediction and Bolt Thrower for some British brutality.
Atheist for some technical stuff.

Don’t forget, what you call ‘Heavy Metal’ was originally called ‘heavy blues’.
The first big bands of that style were Blue Cheer, Canned Heat, Big Brother & the Holding Co.
Stepping Wolf, Jefferson Airplane, The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
Bands like Judas Priest don’t really come from there. They come from Ritchie Blackmores’
Rainbow. More emphasis on classical scales, not really ‘blues’.

I concur with everything but line 3 - not really metal, hard rock at best and that’s being generous to kiss...

Kiss, Van Halen and Crue were all considered “metal” at one point. Maybe not thrash but certainly edgier than hard rock at the time.

Classic, classic! I know tons of 80’s guys, (mostly guitar players), I actually call them
Cherry Pie guys! Anytime I meet a guitar player that’s around my age, (50) with a bandanna
and some ‘shred’ licks, I always ask them ‘So are you like, one of those Cherry Pie guys’?
They just kind of look at you like, huh? Guitar players.

Of course it all depends on your definition of who is “metal enough” - but I would think that Buckcherry may fit into that early 2000s list.

I love seeing another Byz fan on here. If you didn't see it yet, they OJ put out a quarantine cover with some other notable artists (Mike Portnoy and Phil Demmel) doing a solid version of Metallica's "Shortest Straw."

I'm feeling like I got to 100songs, and I am satisfied with it for now. I appreciate everybody's contribution and I think in the future we need to build one together, because I saw today that there was a way to make a playlist cooperatively. Looking into how that works. I want to work on some other kinds of lists now though.
