:) I ran a big thread on this a few weeks ago:

In the end, I opted to try the two 1x12" option and splashed out on the first Markbass Traveller 121H cab last week. I played a gig with it last Friday, paired with my old Hartke 4x10" XL series and I really liked the combination (lots of punch).

Still, I didn't really audition many cabs before choosing the Markbass, due to a lack of variety in my local music stores :hmm: , so I'm no great authority on how it compares to Epifani, Schroeder, EBS et al.

:smug: It's funny, I hated that orange and black colorscheme at first (thought it looked like a cheap toy :eyebrow: ). Now that I've had my LMII for a few weeks, I'm beginning to look at it more as a sign of quality and distinction :p ! The power of "branding", eh?

Hey guys, a quick question.

I am looking into purchasing an LMII. The guy at Guitar Center said that they are all sold 'without warranty' and that it is required to purchase the 2 year GC warranty. They also could not guarantee that the unit was new... only that it was in 'like new shape'.. which means it could be a return or from the floor. They also said they had to charge sales tax even on out of state purchases.

Is this correct from your purchase experience with GC?

NO!!!!! there was a post a few months ago that some of the GC people were not informed that the 2 year warranty came with it. I went to the Glen Burnie, Md store and they got it for me from the Townson store in 2 days in an unopen box.

If you can find one new in the box, you would be lucky. However, it should not be beaten up. As far as tax goes, if they have a store in your state, I think you have to pay tax; hence Musician's Friend in Oregon. The unit's price includes the performance warranty, and as far as I know, they are inseparable.

At least when I bought mine it was true you had to get the warranty, BUT the warranty is included in the price. Don't pay extra for the warranty, that is how Markbass is handling support in the U.S.

When I got mine they brought out a new box and I opened it with them to test the amp. The Hollywood GC never seems to have LM II's on the floor so if you ask for one they have to get it from the back.

I thought if something was a return it could no longer be sold as new they had to be sold as used or "blems". As for sale tax they might be right. As I understand it if the company selling a product has any stores in the state where the product is being shipped then they charge sales tax. That's why some of the big online stores setup shop in small states. They can pay low to staff and no sales tax to the others states as a selling point.

Markbass is good gear and GC seems to be really tarnishing the image.

When I bought my Little Mark II last week from the Boston GC, I was charged $525 or so for the amp and then an extra $74.99 or something for the two year warranty. It comes out to $599 in the end as advertised, and I don't think you can buy the amp without the warranty. Mine was also new, but the salesman told me it was one of the few new LMIIs in the Northeast or something like that.

I've been using my two Berg 112's with my LMKII. I can't say enough great things about this setup. I use just one cab for most gigs and two when I play in bigger rooms or with more people. I can hardly get my volume turned up. The amp is LOUD!

I just got back from a gig that I used my newly aquired fender J through my rig for the first time on......the amp was flat except for a small amount of bass boost...one 112 cab. Sounded like heaven.

Hey Andy (and other LMII owners). Does this amp ship with a carry bag? If not, does Markbass have a bag available for purchase in the US?

From what I understand, there is not a new one 'in box' anywhere in the US at this point.

It's funny, the main reason I haven't tried one of these earlier (since I check out almost every small amp made!) is that I just didn't want to deal with Guitar Center. I'm very spoiled dealing with dealers like Austin Bass Traders, The Groove Shoppe, etc. (and even Musician's Friend for 'lower end stuff') where you always get a brand new unit that has not been 'on the floor', etc.

I'll just cross my fingers that the unit I will receive is in 'like new' shape. I guess there is the nice return policy, so if anything seems funky, I'll just send it back.

Interesting decision for them to go with Guitar Center. I guess on the positive side, given the low price of the gear, they have a good shot of selling a lot of units to the 'non pro' (or at least 'non boutique') part of the market, and they will get a lot of trial and buzz (at least among younger players who still have not learned to avoid Guitar Center:D ). ON the downside, nothing will suck the 'boutique' and special brand image from a brand than having your brand exclusively associated with a store like Guitar Center.

I guess every business decision is a trade-off. There seems such a disconnect to me between the brand image put forward by the website and posts on this site by people associated with the product versus the chaos and 'low end' brand image of GC.

Oh well... no big deal. I look forward to trying one of these out.

Sorry for the thread diversion. Back to the original thread question....assuming I keep mine, I will be using it with my LDS Ultra Light 112 Coax (similar to the EpiUL112, but smaller, lighter, and with a more extended low end).

It does not come with a bag. There is one available, but it's far too expensive ($95) and AFAIK not available in the US as of yet. Dave at Club Bass is working on a line of amp carry bags that will be very reasonable and one is going to be sized for the LMII.

Other than that, I believe many people are having luck fitting it into laptop bags and the like.

....following ken's diversion. I actually just yesterday went to guitar center, and walked out with a markbass sd800. Totally an awesome experience, I haven't been in a while and the staff was completely different to me, but the guy I worked with was great. I made sure to get there right when they opened so I could try out some gear in a more quiet environment. Some great basses they had, i was shocked. This is the south bay gc, in lawndale. I was able to try out a dingwall afterburner 6, lakland hb, benavente, ad I brought my sadowsky to try the rig out. Traded in my db750 and 1001rbII and got teh mb and also a mesa boogie combo. Anyway all this to say...it was a pleasurable experience at gc, and the sd800 i got was new in box.

I heard Musician's Friend is suppose to start carrying the Markbass gear. I emailed them and they said they didn't have date when they would start receiving the gear.
