Sorry, I'm still living in the 90s.
We're both grumpy old metalheads Valerus.
The term "metal" has such a cool ring to it that they stick it on anything that uses plenty off distortion these days.
My guitarist is also sick of it. "Metal isn't about how much distortion you use. It's how much energy and musical elements you put into it."

Good way of viewing it. Metal has been stretched too far, IMO.
And you don't like Horror Show? That album is BAD-A!

Blind Guardian and Helloween are still my all-time favourites.
Blind Guardian for the very musicly metal and sublime vocal work.
Helloween because of Markus, the most awesome metal bassist IMO.
Although Helloween has a lot of misses.
And Helloween is not heavy metal... it's happy metal.
Horror Show is my favourite album.
Wolf is one of my favourite songs, just awesome.
I love 19th century primal sci-fi literature, wich that album is in song form.
werewolfs, Jeckyl and Hyde, Frankenstein (I recommend reading the original book, it's nothing like the mockery they made out of it in movies), Phantom of the Opera,...

As for Tech Death, I dig Suffocation and Kataklysm (especially their later stuff).
For cheesy BLACK metalz I spin pretty much anything by Dimmu Borgir. Ya, I really do

yea LA has been getting better in terms of Death metal bands though I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a hotbed of the newer acts.

Not bad. Although to be honest I'm not immediately won over.
You're right, I'm not much into such vocal work.
The guitar riff/lead was cool, but not much variation.
I guess my standards in metal are different. After so many years of Blind Guardian and Rhapsody I like very complex song structures.
Or it doesn't have to be that complex.
Just a distinction between chorus and verses would be nice.
But overall, I could listen to an entire album of Conducting from the Grave I suppose.
Got a recommendation for you: die Apokalyptischen Reiter.
It's also screaming vocals, but very instrumental and weird. Much acoustic instruments use.
I wonder what your opinion is on that band knowing that you like Conducting from the Grave.
