Yeah, I have already consoled myself by telling myself the repair can add sentimental value and my son can have it in the will. He is typically careful around instruments but the wind had a balloon blowing around and the blinkers went on, he ran straight into it.

Yep, I'm arriving at that point now. I look back fondly at the times when my DB Insurance was enough to cover the mayhem my kids unleash.

Most importantly I sounds like he wasn't hurt. With over 200 ft lbs of pressure, a loose string could do a lot of damage to a toddler.

Yep could have been a lot worse -the bass took one for the baby

Some people hang a loop from the ceiling so that the bass doesn't fall over. Worth considering.

I will absolutely be adding some additional restraint when it returns from the luthier. The little guy was fine but a bit upset from the fright.

Nobody wants to follow my advice, but I maintain that you won't run into this problem if you keep it in the freezer...

...the kid, that is. Perhaps it's best that I don't have any.

This sucks out loud but considering all the possible permutations of DB, toddler and balloon, you made out OK on balance.
