Camping meltdown in 3! 2! 1!

Last night things went into the pooper.
49 degrees, windy and rainy. A tent from Target which was clearly designed for non rainy Mississippi nights (all screen at the top with a separate rainfly to CATCH the wind). The rain seeped in a little while the wind tried to launch the kite-er-tent, and we huddled in semi dampness waiting for the apocalypse.
SHE said some mean things and I gave it right back. The kids slept through everyrhing!
We broke camp by 09:00 and we're eating double hash browns at Dennys by 10am.

There are several lessons here:
1) don't buy a tent from Target, specifically on with the Embark brand on the side.
2) don't camp with a woman who grew up in a small south Pacific village with a machete in her hand. She can run the campsite with one hand tied behind her back and emasculate you with sign language using nothing but her lips.
3) kids love camping.

Weather reports are your friend in camping trip planning.

This is also why I bought a tent to withstand hurricane-force winds and biblical deluges. Money well-spent!

There may be something seriously wrong with me, but that sounds like a good time. YMMV.

What brand of tent did you buy? I have to admit- this "breeder program" I'm on has reduced my disposable income.

I bought a 4-person Eureka from Campmor many years ago. We only have one child, so it works well.

Unfortunately, my wife has a bad back and can't sleep on the ground anymore. So, we bought a small camping trailer which is pretty nice.

You're right that kids absolutely love to go camping. I'll keep the tent for when I take the boy canoe camping in the backcountry.

I took him for his first backpacking trip last summer and had a real blast.

Dude, 80% of the problems you've related on this site STEM from the freakin breeding program.:D:laugh::roflmao::D:woot::banghead: This too shall pass. Maybe as halfway between camping and hotel you plan ahead and rent a cabin type thing. Something where you have a little peace and privacy. Not having to strike camp both coming and going saves a lot of time and hassle.
