I’ve played Bon Jovi songs on my Roscoe basses. That’s close enough right
Also played them through all of the 90s in grunge and hard rock bands. The bass is only one part of the equation.

Jeroen Paul Thesseling is a BEAST of a player, very technical but at the same time very melodic. Note how this song shifts from Death metal into Iron Maiden style seamlessly.

Completely agreed... I guess I just see a middle ground with an instrument that you actually treat like an instrument, but also feel it's protected enough to not worry much about those dings (or eventual repairs). I have a Roscoe 6-string that isn't much cheaper than the Smith, but much heavier-duty gloss finish means I'm not afraid to play it without concern.
My end game is probably sell the varnish Smith, and save up for either an Elite (lacquer) Smith or a Wal with stronger finish. Then play it like I won't take it with me (which no one will).
