Can anybody give me some advice?:)

Hi there.
I have a MIA jazz bass and i m currently tuned down to D(one tone down on all strings).
I had a huge problem with the bass because with this tuning, the bass tended to buzz alot. I inserted new fatter strings(the e string being 120) and also my technician setted it so that it wont buzz but all were in vain because the bass kept on buzzing.
Yesterday i was alone at home and tried to set it myself. I fixed the neck and now it is bended in a U-Shape. The action is very high but i dont care alot about that.

With this current setup am i causing any damage to the neck???

Thanks

kik

Uh. Is this post real? Bending the neck in a U shape is not fixing it.

For the record you are only supposed to go a 1/4 turn at a time. Sounds like you broke out the socket wrench.

Damage? Possibly. Your fretboard could pop off or you could (possibly) damage the neck.

I am glad you were alone at home when you tried to fix it, sound likes you almost broke something when could have been dangerous for close ears.

How much did you turn the truss rod? You really shouldn't turn it more than 1/4 turn per day.

Take it back to your tech and have him fix it because you obviously don't know what you're doing and at this rate, you could really screw things up.

When you changed the tuning you put less stress on the neck than it was used to causing more back bow, which gave less clearance for the strings on the frets, which caused the buzz. If you wanted to maintain the same string height, a slight loosening the truss rod was all it needed... one that would be very difficult to see just with the naked eye (i.e. no ruler).

You say there is a U shape now... how much of a U? The MIAs have a bi-flex rod, which means you can force the neck to bow towards the strings way more than they would naturally under tension. This is meant for extreme cases (funky necks).

If you told your tech about the tuning change it should have taken less than 5 min to do it right.

Get a better tech. You shouldn't have too look hard considering your description.:scowl:

longer scale length + stiffer neck. Try some high tension stainless strings also ( pro steels, prisms, sunbeams/hibeams )

i play tuned down a a half step and am totaly pickey when it comes to string "feel". I can NOT play anything tuned down under 35"scale

ps: ur jazz is f'ed sorry

Actually if the buzz is less than you actually say it is, chances are, IN a band situation, the buzz won't be heard by everyone. The guitar's frequency will be heard over the buzz so it won't be a big deal.

but nonetheless, looks like your bass is toast. Get the 5 and grow some bawls.
Haha kidding!
