Can anybody recommend a good sleep aid?

Now, I'm gonna level with you, and be the first person to tell you that I should really follow my own advice way more often, but eating well and excercise works wonders. Even if that excercise isn't overly strenuous... I found that when I was having trouble sleeping a few years ago, I'd throw on the headphones and go for a walk for about an hour, hour and a half every night before bed, and that would do a reasonable job of putting me out.

That being said, I'm gonna get my fat behind to the gym to see about signing myself up for a membership.

Exercise. Work real hard till your tired and then go to bed. Best sleep I get.

Physical labor too. Go for a run/jog, play some ball, work out, it all helps. I find it best to work hard throughout the whole day so that I'm truly tired by the time my head hits the pillow. Of course I'm the kinda guy that can fall asleep anywhere anytime.

Perhaps taking a look at your sleep habits might help. Only use your bed for sleep and sex; try not to hang out in your bed before you go to sleep. Try to get on a consistent schedule if you are able to. At times, I use Trazedone, which is non-addicting, and it works pretty well for me.

But seriously, just tire yourself out - exercise, work, anything that gets you working mentally and physically. Get a job as a chef in a restaurant - you'll never have trouble sleeping again!

1. Take A Walk. Many people get introverted with problems and thoughts which makes it hard to sleep. Take a Walk and look around at the things around you. This shifts your focus outward. As you walk you may have sad/hopeless thoughts followed by "revenge" thoughts, followed by angry thoughts, followed by boredom. When you get bored, don't stop and keep walking and eventually you'll feel more at peace. Then go back and try to sleep.

2. Read fairytales. Sounds silly, but it stimulates sleep, usually reminding one of childhood.

3. Try Invalid Link Removed. It's natural and non-addicting.

4. Finding the true source of the problem is better for you than popping a pill. Like others have mentioned, change your diet, get exercise and maybe try a martial art like Tai Chi. Martial Arts are great for bringing balance back into your life. Just watch the Karate Kid! Balance Daniel-san!

Ibuprofen shouldn't knock you out unless it's a formulation with Benadryl.

That being said I'd recommend Melatonin or Benadryl (Diphenhydramine). My personal favorite are TheraFlu strips. Each is 25mg of benadryl and they dissolve in your mouth so they're in your system faster.

If you're taking other medications I'd look into how they may interact.

If you're looking to go the homeopathic route I'd recommend a hammer and a phonebook.

+1 on Ambien.....I took it for awhile coming off working nights (for the day job....don't almost all of us work weekend nights?). That shizaz will knock you out.....I stopped mostly because I was sleep eating everything I could get my hands on...and had a strange urge to organize stuff.

Truly a great nightime sleep aid/what the hell am I doing on the kitchen floor and where the hell is the ice cream drug of choice.
