The logo kinda looks like it could say "Kallas."
Definitely looks like that type of bass, too.
What say you, @johnk_10?

that seems like it! ty!! now I just have to find one but they seem extremely rare.

Hi eliascalles,

np

I sure Johnk could help there.

I stumbled across these per chance when I was searching for Jaguar type 34" bass with a MM style HB either in the P (like the Kallas) or MM stingray position.

There was one in the classified here (not by me & also sold): SOLD - John Kallas Jazzmaster Bass
One of the links in the listing is to another thread with sound samples which are still online: Jazzmaster Basses

They sound great!, unfortunately a bit out of my my price range (especial after EU customs, duties & 19% taxes on top).

I found a used (no longer produced) "budget line" Sandberg Electra M4 [HB in the Stingray position] locally, which I am enjoying a lot (rare here, and probably less common on the other side of the pond) - sorry the only picture I have at the moment, it is 50km away in the practice room, it is now one of the 3 basses I rotate with the band, along with a MX Jaguar [P/J] player & a HB Enhanced 25th [MM/P] (the latter is a very different beast, a bit "uncouth" & mean/aggressive, but sits well in a harder rock mix). The Electra has a modified/reduced P body shape & is very light. The offset Jag/Jazz bodies tend to add a bit of weight (I'm 60+, so weight matters to me).

Regards,
Henry

Grab a Squire Jaguar H until you do.It's a dead ringer and a nice bass on it's own in the 300 bucks range.

Those Squier Affinity HBs certainly are cool & very affordable, 32" though. Makes a great mod platform.

The earlier Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special HB (w/ 4 knobs/active) is 34", but has a hot HB bar pickup (w/ large pole pieces) located quite a bit south of the 36th fret, almost in the J bridge position & a very hot active circuit.

I bought an H and modded it with a Stellar pup and electronic upgrades including a 3way switch.I like it very much.Could you change the pickup position to match the older model?

Hi kevmac,

=> I bought an H

You have the newer Affinity Jag HB? Cool.

With a lot of work, if you have the newer Affinity you could move the PU south to the MM or "older VM" position (and have the old empty PU rout under a new pickgruard).... but both would require routing in an exposed wood finished area (i.e. not under the pickguard & = higher routing skill level). I personally would not do it myself on an exposed area (unless I were using it solely in a punk band), my routing skills & tools are not good enough for anything other than punk..

If you are interested in the older VM PU position, it would probably be cheaper simply to keep an eye open for a used Squier Jag VM Special HB - they are generally very good deals to be found for them used - probably for less than having a luthier rout an Affinity (or look for a used Sterling or Harley Benton if you want the Stingray position). If you do not like the VM PU or active circuit, there are plenty of PUs/active circuits which will fit in that bass w/out routing (I'm the wrong person to ask about active circuits.. with the exception of one 5 string bass, I make sure I can bypass them & add a passive tone control when not available per default).

Keep in mind, that the upper magnet row of the VM "bar" pickup is only a bit north of a 60's Jazz bridge pickup position (== not a lot of low end when not adjusted via an active circuit). You need to think about that & if it is the tone you want (e.g. if you only slap?... it is located closer to the bridge than a MM stingray PU). You could also always add a P or other "neck/middle" PU to an older Jag. VM and keep the existing "bridge" PU (rout for the new PU is then under the pickguard which is easier/cheaper). The default Jag. VM configuration was pretty hot and prone to distortion and overloading the amp input... (search here and on youtube)... but as often forgotten, knobs are also intended to be turned down, not just up ;) ).
