The second owner did. ( I think he's a "Grower", and very alternative...sorta burnt-out. I think he got this in payment for something...! Great Art, everywhere, but the batteries in the Bass were dead when I got there. )

What does "NTE" Printed on the Board mean? In the diamond? I remember somebody mention a "unified Ground" or something, while mentioning the board. (I looked this morning...looks like that board in from "Intel".)

Look at the wear on the Bridge--this Bass wasn't made only four years ago. Weird!
Where did you find that info? --I'm looking for it, but can't find that. They are a world wide company nowadays, amazing--they're on space-ships!
Well, I'm slammed with Gigs this weekend. Roseville, CA tonight,(Load in at 2:00 P.M.), then Loomis, CA. tomorrow, then right from that Gig,( A wedding), drive straight to Carmel, Ca., (Another Wedding, at Clint Eastwood's Hotel.), I'll get back early Monday Morning.

It's obviously not a Tobias. I said it has a similar neck construction.
Well, that must be the true story then. If a guy selling you something says someone told him someone else said something that seems pretty conclusive.
Further evidence that what he said is true. You think you got it from a pot grower burn out but you're convinced his stories are true? I think you have a $400 bass and a story.

I'm the third owner, what he told me was from the original owner. I haven't seen any solid evidence that disputes him so far.

Depends... some bassists sweat enough to do that in a year.
I don't recognize that logo and I've been dealing with custom basses since the seventies. Good mystery.
My guess, if I had to, is it's a small unknown builder. That makes the value highly dependent on the buyer.
Take a good close up of that headstock inlay.

You can buy a lot of $400 Carvins with a more expensive black ebony board. But what it's worth is what you can sell it for.

When I viewed the shape of the headstock, that was the first impression that I had- it looked like something that Jeff Kiesel, might of had a hand in?
But what continues to throw me is the abalone logo inlay, it's well thought out and took some skill to execute.
Likewise the pre-amp circuit board logo 'NTE' could indicate NTE Electronics Inc | Electronic Components Supplier | Semiconductors the configuration and the ancillary components of the pre-amp indicates a higher level of skill as well.
I asked the good folks at SF Guitarworks, to have a look since the case logo reminded me of their storefront, and their client base is centric to your locale. And they have mentored a luthier or two
But alas they too are mystified, they were even kind enough to ask Joe Zon, and he couldn't ID the maker either.
Although they all agreed that it was a well done nice bass!
