Looks like the MB4 series to me.

They were kind of going after the Ibanez pricepoint, style, and NECK

yep - it's the mb4. I had a couple of the mb5s which was just the 5 stringer version - they are decent basses.

Thanks guys. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow then. He's only asking $80 for it and says it's in like new condition. I wonder why I've never noticed this series. My preference is toward J-basses, but this could be a decent backup.

Yep, a MB-4. I picked one up on CL a couple of years ago as a beater/backup, and was pleasantly surprised. Light and somewhat versatile with the P/J pup's. The only mod that I made was to swap the stock bridge for a Gotoh 201. Happy playing!
