Can I combine these?

Hey guys, I'm going to a friends house with a few friends to jam tomorrow and I'd like this question answered by 11:30 tomorrow please.

One of my guitarist buddies was saying that you can combine some amps. I have a GK Goldline 2x10 cab with a GK Backline 250 head and a Crate 1x10 practice amp. My question to you is - Can I combine these two amps for greater power/volume over our lead guitarist? heehee, stupid guitar and big amp.

The crate has a in-put jack with a speaker symbol on it so I figure I could hook it up to my GK but wanted to ask if it was safe and how exactly to do so.

Thanks a billion!

You can't run the power section of one amp into the other, unless you like the smell of burning electronics. You COULD Bi-amp by splitting your signal and running into the Crate and the GK seperately, but that would require something that splits to stereo like a Morley A/B/Y pedal for example (and wouldn't really do that much for you anyhow).

If the GK head has a "preamp out" or "line out" jack, you should be able to run a cable out from that jack into your Crate amp. The jack with the speaker logo is probably for attaching another speaker, not another amp. So for the Crate you'd either plug into the instrument input or into a "line in" jack if it has one. If you plug into the instrument input, be sure to turn down the input level knob at first so as to avoid blasting too high of a signal into that li'l amp.

It won't help much as far as competing with a loud guitarist though. Just tell him to turn down.

I'm pretty sure that's an output jack you could connect a speaker to. In other words, don't do it!

If you have a line out on one amp, then you can chain them together from that, but the GK should handle a jam fine by itself.
