Can I lightly steam clean Rat Fur

I have some old smell cabs I got a deal on at GC and am thinking about cleaning them up. Painiting the metal grills and steam cleaning the ratfur/carpet...

Cool idea or am I an idiot?

I dunno what they used for adhesive, but it could potentially come loose with steaming.

I used some of the "pet stain remover"-type product and a small brush on my amp. Got rid of the funky alchohol & vomit smell and assorted crunchy colorings.

Troy, have you tried anything yet SHORT of steam cleaning?

Light steam cleaning should hurt it. I've done it before with no bad side effects.

Go to a janitoral supply company and ask for "live enzyme" they'll sell it under a zillion different names.. a quart is about $12....in a pet store, it's the same product for $12/2oz

I bought these subs used and the are just filthy..I suspect if i put them on some sort of vibrating contratption...I would be left with 12 pounds of dust...lol

Try a carpet/upholstry cleaner (might need to rent one). You have a lot more control over how much cleaning solution you use and don't have the risk of the steam causing the adhesive to release. I'd try multiple passes with really light solution. I'd also start on the bottom of the cabinet so that if it does cause the glue to release it's on a part that's hidden.

I don't know what kind of gunk you are dealing with, but I was able to clean up some nasty cabs just by using the air compressor at work with a nozzle. 10 years of solidified dirt, dehydrated sweat and puke vapors blew out of the fuzz in a cloud of nasty dust. I was amazed at the results.

Along with the above, Maybe first try a shop vac or a heavy duty vac at one of those DIY car washes.

check to see if the cabs are made of particle board, if they are, make sure not to get that stuff wet.

a shop vac is what i'd use but not everybody has one;picked up a GK combo this year and it was imbedded with cat hair=?,,,cleaned right up but i scrubbed it up down back and fourth a couple times each side with the hose,pulled the screen,touched the paint up with spraycans and tightened screws(still a fartbox but it was the cheap version)

then i'd just spritz it with some sort of (anything you have to deodorize it),,jack daniels tomorrow night would work

I hope you were amazed at the results in the garage/driveway instead of inside the house...
