Can someone explain this?

This is an Alder two piece body on a very high end bass.
Is this joint color issue the result of a finish problem or a
wood "issue"?
Could it have been noticed in the wood selection process?

That’s wood variation. Yes, it should have been obvious in the wood selection process.

(Also, nothing based on a Fender design can be called “very high end” - too many engineering compromises in that realm.)

Personally, I don't call that a problem. I side with Bob Ross and call that a happy accident, if it wasn't a deliberate decision by the maker. Makes it pop and look very unique.

It does really look like a thick book that has been opened. I think that looks great.

I tell ya, someone should just buy it already, examine it and then report back in detail about its defects and too many engineering compromises.

If whoyouever you are doesn't like the bass I'll buy it from you for $1,500, but you have to pay for the shipping cost with insurance.

Olinto basses are not cheap, at a minimum I'd expect impeccable bookmatching -regardless of being in the front or back-.

I think that person meant anything in the FSO realm but I disagree on not calling things like sadowsky and olinto (and more) “very high end.”
