Can someone help me?

Okay. I have been playing my bass through an Ampeg BA-210SP for a few years now. I used the effects a few times when i first got it and havnt used since. the other day i got an over drive pedal for my bass and wanted to mix it with the chorus (which was built into the amp)
I couldn't find the cable to connect the foot switch to the amp. So me being not too bright said "I'll just use an instrument cable to hook it up." Even though i needed a TRS cable. I think i shorted out something because every time I turn effects on it cracks and screeches loud. I took it apart and figured out the effects board is seperate from the rest of the amp.
My question is...
...does anyone know how to fix this problem without sending it to a shop and paying a ridiculous amount of money?
and does ampeg send whole circuit boards of amps?

After a couple years of banging maybe a component let go on one of the boards. I had a Hartke once that was known for doing that. And an Eden too come to think of it. It's not necessarily something you did.

If you're not familiar with electronics I'd suggest you button it back up and bite the bullet. It might not be as bad as you think.
