Can Someone Recommend Me A Jazz Song.

thank you sir, it may be a bit delayed. I cant just jump right into Jazz or R&B, or Funk. That and I went in today and it seems being 19 at 5'8 and 122 pounds Im a bit under weight which is no problem more like a blessing in disguise for more practice.

I decided to play Come on, Come Over from Jaco. Jazz is being taken care of. Rock is in the bag. Blue Bossa is going to take a while to get the feel for it. Its simple but i want it to be good. Country is done, with I Walk The Line, Funk is done with Higher Ground. But I need one for R&B. The songs are going betterthan I thought. But R&B will most likely be a challenge for me.

He told me anything that "exhibits" jazz. Same with Funk thats how Im able to play Higher Ground, not exactly Funk but the slapping exhibits a funk technique. Thats also where he wants me to do two pieces. One for skill and one for technque. Thats also where I have to do I walk the line and another country song. But now I have another problem. My sght reading is going to be fake book format. I guess thats with the chord names over the lyrics, but as long as I have been playing bass, I never play chords. How do I do this?

No, that's not chord names over the lyrics. Fake book format is lead sheet - chords and melodies written on staff.

You don't play chords as in strum them, but you do create a bassline based on those chords...

Hmm. I need to meet with SSG. Derrick, all of this was discussed over the phone. I do know how to read music its required in band, but how am I supposed to know how to read bass sheet music? Im sure its different than piano and percussion.

I found a way to aid me in Bass sheet music. Im going to hook a tuner up to the bass, play each fret write down the note for each fret and string. Memorize this then apply this idea to a song written in "music notation" a see if it works. Do you think it will work? or am I wasting my time?

to what end...grab a bass method book and start work......you already know the rhythms of music notation so getting the notes down should not take as long as trying to re-invent the wheel with a tuner

Thats very true, I just cant find a book, even when I go to a local store, they have tab books, not method books. They have a great book called the Bass Tab White Pages or something. 200 songs 1000 pages, covers all genres. Sounds good but not what I need, Im looking for a book on method and building bass lines for my improv piece on the audition.
