Can the OCD Replace The Bassdrive?

I foolishly let my OCD go when I sold my smaller board off. Had to make some really tough decisions, what to keep, what to dump. Fulltone really should market that pedal to bassists, it's better than many bass specific overdrives.

Ya I went up to the guitar shop today just to browse (first mistake), and decided to try it out on a whim. Holy **** is that pedal awesome. Im hitting up everyone in the classifides as we speak for one haha. What great, transparent, nasty sounding little boost

I still really like mine. Its simple to use and sounds great without any issues or need to be tweaked to death to find the one usable sound. it just sounds good no matter what and can be adjusted to taste!

I used to run the OCD + Sans Amp and it was awesome! If you're going for that overdriven bass tone, that's a good ticket!

I found out that with the Tech 21 VT Bass, I could get the same sound as those two pedals combined, but they still sound good!

I did notice a slight loss in low end with the OCD on. I had the toggle switch down to low pass and the compensated on the Sans Amp for bass as well.

Over all great pedal for guitar or bass!

Did you run it with 9v or 18v? I also have a non mosfet version that is powered by a Dunlop Brick (18v) and I've never had a problem with low end cutoff/loss.

I typically run mine in FM mode with the level and tone around 12 o'clock. If the tone is wide open, I use less gain. Right now, I have the tone at 12 o'clock with the gain and boost dimed.

With that said, I still want to try the OCD based on your review!

I never tried it at 18v which I always heard gave the pedal more headroom but never heard that it would improve low end. I really liked the Bassdrive until I compared it to an OCD. The quality or flavor of the overdrive from the OCD was just so much sweeter to my ear and the low end didn't drop out the way it does on the Bassdrive. The OCD sounds so good no matter how its set and its by far my favorite bass overdrive.

I tried out a Version4 OCD last night at a music shop and was very impressed. I didn't hear any low end loss but I was not using my own gear and music stores are not the best environment for testing new gear.

I was really impressed with how the controls work and found that the OCD sounded warm and smooth no matter how I set it. There was no gritty fizzyness, just warm smooth overdrive. I was really liking it.

I had a buddy at the store with me, he went and grabbed a Bassdrive mosfet off the shelf and we compared them. After playing the OCD for awhile, as soon as I plugged in the Bassdrive and set it up to a mild overdrive, my buddy immediately stated that the OCD was light years better sounding.

I switched back and forth a dew times and noticed that the Bassdrive's tone control can bring out a lot more gritty high end and sounds kind of muddy when turned down. I have never been completely happy with the tone sweep on my non mosfet version at home either.

My goal is to replace the Bassdrive with a smaller pedal that provides a nice light overdrive with no low end loss and has the same tonal qualities as the bassdrive.

So is the OCD going to cut it with the low end? I would like to hear from people that have used the OCD. is it a keeper? Are you satisfisfied with the low end retention when using it? Is it a suitable alternative to the Bassdrive.

I really like my Bassdrive but do notice a low end loss.

Great posts!!! I'm not much for overdrive when playing the bass but I understand certain songs would sound great with it. I have been playing guitar for 30 years and recently picked up the bass. I have an OCD (I think it may be a V4) and it was the most pleasing pedal I have ever used for my guitar tone. I think I might go home tonight, blow the dust off my OCD and run it through my bass combo (Ampeg BA 210 V2). Kind of curious as to how it will sound!
