Can this be done?

So i like smaller cabinets. I am using a set of 210's instead of a 410. Thinking about adding on so here is the question. Has anyone ever rewired a set of 8 ohm 210's to act as a 8 ohm 410. It sounds a little crazy but I think if i rewire the two 210s to 16 ohms then i get a 8 ohm load out of the two cabinets. Thus giving me the option of adding another 8 ohm cab like a 115. Has anyone ever tried this or is there just no point to it.

He's talking about rewiring 2 2x10's to be a combined load of 8, so that he can add a third 8-ohm cab for a total combined load of 4.

Yes it can be done, but you'll need new speakers, and thus it is not a great option.

A better idea is getting an amp that handles a 2-ohm load, then just get a 4-ohm 3rd extension cab.

If the first two total out to 8 ohms then i can get a third cab. Running the first two in parallel to 8 ohms and the third at 8 ohms getting the full 500 watts at 4 ohms from my head.

Understand what you are trying to do, but it can't be done with your cabs.

If each of your 2X10's are already 8 ohms each - they cannot be made to a 16 ohm.

Your 2X10's are either:

2 - 4 ohm speakers wired in series (most common), OR
2 - 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel (not common)

There is no physical way to rewire either possibility to be 16 ohms.

You need 32ohm speakers, otherwise you will have two 32ohm cabs that total 16ohms, not ideal for what you want to achieve. Why not just run the pair of 2x10's? Who needs the 15?

No point and not possible as others have said.

i think your best bet based on your likes (needs?) would be an amp that can handle a 2ohm load and 2 more 8ohm 2x10s. Then you'll have options :D

I get it. Thanks just trying to think outside the box. Guess I am just looking for a little project to tinker with. With that said everything you all are saying makes sence. The 210 are a perfect setup just can't stop looking to buy more stuff and have to find someway to justify it. Guess guess why they call it GAS. Maybe I'll look for a cool project bass instead. Just never messed with speakers before thought I might be able to don something cool with them.

I guess I was just looking at the 4 speakers in my 210s and thought that they were the same 4 speakers that are in the 410 and 8 ohm version of my cab. I am playing the gk glx210 goldline and yes I know not many people are fans, but I love the sound. Have seen people put a single 15 under their 410s and wondered if I could make that happen without buying a new cab. Lois like the answer is no and I will move on. The set up I have now is great. Have always been fascinated with speakers and ohms and watts and have been looking for a cool way to cheat the system for a while. Seems you just can't beat it. Oh well fun trying. Thanks for bouncing the idea around.
