Can we please stop using "guitard"?

I wonder if r e t a r d is derived from the Italian word ritard or ritardando which means to slow or decrease the tempo?

Hmmmmm...

I always thought it was funny that on TB you can't be critical of sound engineers, but, using a derogatory nickname for guitarist is perfectly acceptable.

That being said, I could not care less about what a bunch of faceless people on the Internet say about anything, especially, music related.

1) "guitard" implies the word "******". I don't need to explain how offensive that is. Even the term "********" is dated and offensive.

2) the guitarists I work with are talented, considerate professionals and I like them personally

3) "guitard" promotes a separateness, an otherness....an "us vs. them" vibe that just isn't good
If you had any experience with our guitarist you'd make that word a staple in your vocabulary, for sure.

Trust me, I know some AWFUL guitarists. Too loud, too busy, wrong scale-playing, obnoxious stage-wankers.

Some folks on TB refer to ALL guitarists EVERY time using the derogatory term in question. And it's an offensive term just by its nature. It's used to condemn guitarists to inferiority and it references a very real disability. Not nice. It's like when you think something is awful and you call it "gay". Not kind to gay people.

Let's call the truly awful guitarists "gui-douche bags" or something.

Your point is indisputable. I have a friend with an intellectual disability and the term under discussion is incredibly hurtful to them.
As for the derogation at this site of guitarists, I always assumed it was largely tongue-in-cheek, as so many of us are six-string pickers as well.

Now real douche bags are gonna be offended.

Well then they aren't guitards. What I find offensive is someone trying to modify my behavior by telling me what I can or cannot say, enough of the pc crap. You are implying that it's used to specifically degrade those who are disabled. A little insensitive to them, sure, while we're at it lets ban the use of the word stupid as it's degrading to anyone with low intelligence. And I find your use of the term douche bag offensive to women as it refers to a necessary hygienic practice.

Those "some folks" you refer to are basstards :)
